Top 5 Finishes for Robinson and Lewis at Atlanta

Robinson Racing scored top 5 finishes at Road Atlanta on Saturday, with both of its drivers, in the Trans Am Series’ Foametix Muscle Car Challenge. Gar Robinson, driver of the No. 74 Chevrolet Camaro, battled in the pony wars and came in third place, while Shane Lewis, in the No. 72 Chevrolet Camaro earned a fifth place finish. Robinson Racing’s Camaros are sponsored by 74 Ranch Resort and race in the TA2 Class.

The race weekend at Road Atlanta began with excellent qualifying results for the team on Friday, May 8. Lewis qualified in fifth place with a best time of 1:27.360. Robinson qualified eighth quickest with a lap time of 1:27.651. Practice sessions at the historic track, famous for its challenging turns among multiple elevation changes, went smoothly for the two drivers that day as well.

The green flag for the 40-lap Muscle Car Challenge dropped at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, with 38 cars, the largest TA2 field in Trans Am history. Throughout the race, Robinson aggressively made moves on Ford Mustangs and Dodge Challengers, as he charged up from eighth position in the field. In a battle for fourth, Lewis made contact with a sideways Mustang, enduring minor nose damage and losing four positions and precious time.

“It was an epic race. I finished 5th, just as I qualified,” said Lewis. “It sounds simple but the battle in between was something I will never forget.”

“I think Atlanta went extremely well this weekend,” said Robinson. “We showed the other teams that we are going to be a serious factor in the future races.”

The TA2 race at Road Atlanta will be televised on the CBS Sports Network on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. ET. The next race in the series, Round 4 of the Championship, will be held at Lime Rock Park on May 23, 2015.

“As for Lime Rock Park, I have a good amount of laps there, and it’s a fairly simple track,” noted Robinson. “We did well there last year, and I think we’ll do even better this year.”

After three races, Robinson remains second in the 2015 TA2 Points Standings with 68 points, which is 35 points behind the leader and 7 points ahead of the third place driver. Lewis is in fifth with 57 points, 3 points behind fourth place and 9 points ahead of sixth. In the 2015 TA2 Rookie of the Year Standings, Gar Robinson is in first place, 8 points ahead of the second place driver, while Lewis is in third place, just 3 points behind second.
