Kaz Grala looks forward to the high banks and fast pace of Bristol

Kaz Grala will take to the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East PittLite 125. Grala, coming off an impressive sixth-place finish at Greenville Pickens Speedway, looks to find success at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.

“After a strong run at Greenville Pickens, I feel like our No. 3 Ben Kennedy Racing Kiklos Camry team is riding a bit of momentum going into this weekend,” said Grala. “We’ve had good speed at the first two races this year, so we are definitely motivated going to Bristol where speed and track position are extremely important.”

The 16-year-old Boston native has shown he’s comfortable in the driver’s seat when it comes to the faster, high-banked tracks of the K&N Pro Series schedule. During last year’s season finale at Dover International Speedway, Grala showed his comfort and confidence on the high-banked concrete mile posting a second-place finish.

“I had a great run at Dover last year,” said Grala. “I felt like there were things that I learned during that race that I can use in my approach to Bristol this weekend.”

In the short time they have worked together, Grala and crew chief Mike Fritts have already developed a great line of communication.

“Kaz’s ability to communicate with the team has been great,” said Fritts. “He provides us with excellent feedback on the car and is very appreciative of how hard the guys on the team work. If we can give Kaz a comfortable car with a solid feel I think he can be the driver to beat this weekend.”

“We just have a natural understanding of each other and what is needed for the car,” Grala commented. “When I tell Mike what the car is doing, he is able to approach it from both a racer’s and a crew chief’s perspective, and gives me exactly what I need.”

On-track activities for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East get underway Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with practice for the PittLite 125, with final practice at 2:15 p.m. and qualifying at 5:00 p.m. The PittLite 125 will follow the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m.
