The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West rolls into Kern County Raceway Park near Bakersfield, California on Saturday to open its 2015 season with the NAPA AUTO PARTS 150.
Two Bill McAnally Racing drivers head to the high-banked, half-mile facility looking to capitalize on success they experienced in the series last year.
Brandon McReynolds hopes to contend for the championship in the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota as he begins his second full season in the series. The 23-year-old from Mooresville, North Carolina won the Most Popular Driver Award last year and was named to the NASCAR Next program, which spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars.
He finished fourth in the 2014 championship standings in a season in which he won two poles and put together a string of nine consecutive top-five finishes. McReynolds finished second and fourth in two series races at Kern County Raceway Park last year.
“I’m excited to go back out there,” he said. “We had some good runs there last year. With all the preparation the guys have been doing on our NAPA Toyota over the off season, I’m confident we’ll be good.”
McReynolds hopes to build this year on the success he and his BMR team had last season.
“It’s just a matter of going out there this year and being more aggressive on my end, especially at a place like Kern County that has a lot of room to race,” he said. “We want to take what we learned last year one step further.”
Meanwhile, Chris Eggleston will launch his freshman season with aspirations of capturing the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title. The 25-year-old Erie, Colorado driver – a graduate of Colorado State University – captured plenty of attention last year when, in making just his second series start, he won the race at his home track of Colorado National Speedway.
Eggleston, who will wheel BMR’s No. 99 NAPA Filters/ H2O Fire Protection Toyota this season, has four series starts on his resume. Although he has not yet competed in the K&N Pro Series at KCRP, he did log a lot of laps at the half-mile track when he raced in a big late model race there recently.
“I think that will help prepare us tremendously when we go over there with the No. 99 NAPA Toyota,” Eggleston said. “I’m super excited to go back to Kern, especially with the Bill McAnally Racing team. We’ll hopefully come out of there with a good top-five finish and contend for the win.”
Eggleston is excited about beginning his first full season in the series and expressed confidence in his race team.
“Now that we’ve been able to put together a full deal with NAPA Filters and NAPA Batteries and having their trust in me as a driver, it definitely encourages me and motivates me to make sure I have a good showing,” he said. “We need to make sure we contend for the wins, because they’re definitely a top-notch team. So it’s kind of up to the driver behind the wheel. I’m really looking forward to making Bill McAnally Racing proud.”
The NAPA AUTO PARTS 150, which will be televised on NBCSN on April 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET, will mark the fourth series visit to KCRP.
