Looking for the checkered flag in ‘The City of Six Flags’… Often called the City of Six Flags because of successive rule of the French, British and Spanish, Mobile has also flown the flags of the Republic of Alabama, the Confederate States and the United States. The only flag David is concerned about is the checkered flag at the 1/2 mile track on the Alabama Gulf Coast, and how to capture it. This will be David’s first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Mobile.
Get acquainted with Mobile International Speedway… If, like David, your new to Mobile International Speedway here are some track facts: Located in Irvington, AL, the track is a 1/2 mile paved oval. Banking is approximately 8.2 degrees on the front stretch, 8.1 degrees on the back stretch, 11.5 degrees on the apex of turns one and two and 12 degrees on the apex of turns 3 and 4. This will be the fourth ARCA Racing Series event at the track. The track opened in 1965.
Racing to the hospital first… Before he goes to the track, David will race over to USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Mobile on Thursday, wearing his full driver’s suit, to visit with children and share autographed racing photos and stories. “I am really honored to share my personal heart story, not only to raise awareness about congenital heart defects, but also to let my racing fans know just how important living a healthy lifestyle is at any age,” says Levine. David was born with a congenital heart defect and had open heart surgery when he was just four months old.
Gary Yeomans Ford keys to victory… Qualify! The average starting position for the race winner in the three previous races at the track was 5th. In two of the races, the winner came from the first two rows. To make it to victory lane, qualify well, stay up front all day, and make a run at the finish!
You can find David at the USS Alabama… On Thursday, March 12th from 4:00-6:00pm ARCA teams will have their cars and haulers on display on the USS Alabama in Mobile. David will participate in the driver autograph session being held from 5:00 to 6:00pm in the Aircraft Pavilion. After the autograph session, Mobile County Sheriff Deputies will lead the ARCA haulers from the Battleship in a Hauler Parade to Mobile International Speedway to prepare for Friday’s on track activities.
David Levine on Daytona International Speedway: “I am pleased with how the opening race at Daytona ended. Coming home in 16th and then being bumped to 15th after post race tech was a great way to start the season. Plate racing is always going to be a bit of a toss up and staying out of bad situations is key. We were able to stay out of trouble all day and that allowed us to be there at the finish. We picked up solid points and that’s all that matters in the big picture. It is my goal this season to win Rookie of the Year so every single point helps. I can’t wait to get to Mobile for the first time. It has been a long time since I have raced on a short track and I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel. I can’t thank Gary Yeomans Ford of Daytona enough for giving me the opportunity to race this season! I will be trying to get them the win in Alabama!”
Details… The green flag for the ARCA-Mobile 200 will fly at 2:00pm CDT on Saturday, March 14th at Mobile International Speedway, Irvington, AL. The scheduled race distance is 200 laps / 100 miles. Live timing and scoring will be available at ARCAracing.com
