Jeff Melton Holds On To Win Season Opener At Dillon Motor Speedway

Over 100 cars took to the banks of Dillon Motor Speedway during the 5th Annual New Year’s Saturday 300 BASH Presented by Raceway Automotive on Saturday, January 10.

In a Street Stock race that featured over 30 cars, the locals were on top once the checkered flag flew. Jeff Melton captured the win and the $2,000 purse. Ricky Locklair Jr. from Darlington, S.C. finished right behind him in second. Greg Barnette finished third, followed by Sonny Shoffen who came all the way from Wisconsin to compete. Charles Hutto rounded out the top-five.

Jon Lane took the checkered flag in the Charger feature. William Haynie finished a close second, and Paul Williams rounded out the top-three. Shae Lane finished fourth, and Wade Skipper finished fifth. During this weekend’s action, the dirt cars visited the speedway to compete on asphalt, and Skipper received a $200 bonus for being the highest finishing dirt car driver.

Bobbie Tumbleston held off Mark and Marty Dean for the victory in the Pure Stock Four feature. Bobbie Tumbleston Sr. finished fourth, and Danny Christopher crossed the finish line in fifth.

AJ Sanders won the Mini Stock Mayhem feature. Neil Meredith finished second, followed by Brandon Clements, David Spleneny and Taylor McDonald.

Robbie Disher won the crate engine giveaway after his name was drawn. Raceway Automotive sponsored and supplied the giveaway.

The weekend saw one of the highest car counts ever at the speedway, and the field was a track record for the New Year’s event. It was a cold afternoon in Dillon County, but that didn’t stop everyone from coming out and having fun in a family atmosphere. Dillon Motor Speedway won’t be back in action until the spring, but stay tuned for announcements regarding the 2015 season.
