Hunter Robbins Captures First Career Snowball Derby Pole

Hunter Robbins captured the pole Friday night at the Five Flags Speedway for the 47th annual Snowball Derby. Robbins earned his first career Snowball Derby pole after seven previous attempts. His best start in the event came back in 2012.

“It’s awesome and it’s the biggest race by far that I’ve started from the pole,” said Robbins. “We went out pretty early but it’s awesome as we felt that we were pretty under competitive this weekend. We had one set of stickers for our mock-qualifying run earlier today and the $1000.00 is awesome because it pays the bills this weekend.”
Johanna Long, who held the pole for quite sometime before getting knocked off by Robbins, will start Sunday from the runner-up spot. Long posted a fast time of 16.228 seconds. It marks her fourth top-10 start in the event as she looks to score her second Snowball Derby victory.

Just making his third career start in the derby, John Hunter Nemechek will roll from the third spot. Nemechek, who is the son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Joe Nemechek, posted his fast time of 16.232 seconds. His best finish in the event came last season of fifth.

Ross Kenseth will make his sixth start in the annual event at the Five Flags Speedway. Kenseth will start sixth on Sunday after a fast time of 16.264 seconds. Erik Jones will start from the 12th spot after a lap of 16.292 seconds. Chase Elliott, who was one of the favorites coming into qualifying, will roll from 12th after a time of 16.301. ARCA Racing Series veteran, Grant Enfinger, will leave the pit lane in 29th. Enfinger posted a 16.433 that barely got him locked into the race.

There were two spins during the entire qualifying session but both drivers were able to stay out of the wall. Ty Majeski, who captured the 2014 ARCA Midwest Championship Tour Championship, will have to compete in the 50-lap Snowball Qualifier. Josh Bragg, who also made a fantastic save off turn four in qualifying, ended up 56th fastest. Like Majeski, Bragg will have to get in via finishing position in the last chance qualifier.

All cars have passed post-qualifying tech that locked themselves into the top-30.
