Keselowski Wins NNS at Charlotte, Bloomquist Wins at Magnolia

During Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Drive for the Cure 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Brad Keselowski earned his fourth victory in nine Nationwide starts this season. His win keeps Team Penske in command of the Nationwide owner’s point standings over Joe Gibbs Racing by 31 points.

Keselowski started 10th in the Discount Tire Ford Mustang powered by Roush Yates Engines and would go on to lead twice for a total of 22 laps of the 300-mile race. The number 22 passed his teammate Ryan Blaney on lap 187 and did not look back to take the checkered flag. Blaney finished with a solid fourth place and was one of four Roush Yates Engines in the top ten. With great radio communication between Keselowski and crew chief Jeremy Bullins, the team was able to play prevent defense to preserve tires at the end when it mattered. “Thankfully we got better and made some adjustments on the car to take the 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang to victory lane,” said Keselowski.

Brad Keselowski commented: “Winning a Nationwide race, to me the novelty of being in victory lane hasn’t worn off – at least to me. I don’t take these wins for granted or take these opportunities for granted.” Roush Yates and Brad Keselowski would finish ahead of runner up Kyle Busch by .377 seconds. This win marks Keselowski’s 31st Nationwide Series victory of his career and ties him with Jack Ingram for fifth on the all-time career wins list.

Scott Bloomquist also found success with his RY-45 built by Andy Durham Racing Engines at the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Bloomquist started on the outside pole to Jack Sullivan and would motor his way to victory lane leading every lap from start to finish to claim the $20,000 first-place prize.

Bloomquist was fastest qualifier during the preliminary qualifying round winning heat number four over Rick Eckert by a straightaway. Scott would also dominate during feature event lapping all but 10 of the competitors and commanded a nearly five second straightaway lead over Simpson and Marlar when taking the checkered.

“The car would go absolutely anywhere I wanted it to go during the feature,” Bloomquist stated. “I would like to thank Andy Durham for the smooth running RY-45 that we can run under any condition. Whether it’s here, Eldora, Knoxville, Brownstown, or anywhere else this car is just incredible.”
