Fans might have paid for a seat at Evergreen Speedway to watch the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150, but no one was seated on the final lap thanks to David Mayhew and Dylan Lupton.
Mayhew brought the fans to their feet as he made a daring pass by Lupton in Turn 4 on the final lap of the race to score his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory of the year Saturday.
As the field took the white flag lap, a blanket could have been laid across the top three as Lupton, Mayhew and pole-sitter Brandon McReynolds were all racing for the lead.
Mayhew was able to get on the outside of Lupton going in to Turn 4, holding off the pair of NASCAR Next drivers for his seventh career win.
McReynolds was able to advance a spot to finish in second with Lupton having to settle for a disappointing third. James Bickford and Giles Thornton completed the top five.
Gracin Raz, Tyler Tanner, Thomas Martin, Dan Moore and Austin Reed rounded out the top 10.
McReynolds won the Coors Light Pole Award earlier in the afternoon, but lost to series points leader Greg Pursley going into Turn 1 of the first lap. Pursley remained out front for the first half of the race before Lupton, who won this race last year, made the pass for the lead on the restart to begin the second half of the race. Lupton would hold the lead until Mayhew made his move on the final lap.
Mayhew’s other two wins this season were at Stockton Speedway and Iowa Speedway.
The NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150 will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on Friday, Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. ET.
Series drivers will have one week off before heading to Bakersfield, California, for the next NASCAR K&N Pro Series Event at Kern County Raceway Park on Aug. 30.
