Since 2002, Sam Bass has been the artist behind the designs that cover one of the most sought after trophies in NASCAR; The Gibson guitar trophy hailing from Nashville Superspeedway. Bass will reveal his latest unique guitar creation to the winners of the NASCAR Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series’ races. He also illustrated the cover for this weekend’s programs– a tradition that has been carried out over a 10 year time span.
Bass has designed program covers for many racetracks across the country aside from Nashville, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kentucky Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway to name a few. The guitar trophy designs have been near to Sam’s heart, as he shares a passion for the music industry along with his art. A long labor of love went into the creation of the unique program and guitar designs for this weekend, as Bass spent approximately 150 combined hours to build and finish the guitar and paint the program cover art.
“Being such a huge NASCAR fan and music enthusiast since I was a little kid, getting to design and paint the Nashville Superspeedway trophy guitar is just as cool as it gets for me. I marvel at the craftsmanship of the workers at Gibson, and I am so proud to partner with them and present the guitar trophy in victory lane to the race winner,” Bass explained.
“Feeling the pride that everyone shares when the champion driver raises that trophy up into the air in celebration. It is truly a “Guitar Hero” moment , and I am extremely grateful to be a part of it.”
