This past weekend the K&N East pro series headed to Loudon, New Hampshire for the Granite State 100. On Thursday during the two practice sessions in Loudon the team used this time to try a different set ups in the handling of the car. Qualifying occurred later in the day on Thursday and driver David Garbo Jr qualified 25th overall.
There were sunshine and blue skies for race day on Friday. Garbo Jr would start the race from the 25th position and was quick to make gains in the race. The first caution of the night came out on lap 17 and the team pitted on lap 18 to make some adjustments to the car. By lap 27 Garbo Jr was up to the 23rd position and a second caution came out on lap 30. By the time the third caution of the night came out on lap 42 Garbo Jr. was up to 19th position.
The race was done in halfs, at the half way point Garbo Jr. was up to 18th position and pitted with the rest of the field for fuel tires and some adjustments. Garbo jr was happy with the adjustments and moved up to 14th position. On lap 78 another caution came out and Gray Gaulding who was the leader for most of the night had to make an unscheduled pit stop. On lap 79 Garbo Jr. pitted again to make more adjustments to the car. The team made a second stop on lap 80 but was held a lap and NASCAR timing and scoring marked Garbo Jr. in 25th position and the team would have their way back thru the pack to earn the lucky dog.
Garbo jr. earned the lucky dog spot and on the last lap the leaders were battling for the lead and wrecked in turn three leaving third place Jesse Little the opportunity to dive down and take the lead. David Garbo jr. drove the No.1 Garbo Lobster and Big Machine Records to a 16th place finish. After the race Garbo jr. said “ It was a great learning experience for me. Racing on a track that I’ve grown up watching was something I’ll never forget. We didn’t get the finish we all deserved, but I’m ready and excited for the next time I get to race at NHMS again.”
