Kenzie Ruston started ninth and finished eighth in one of the wildest NASCAR Hall of Fame 150’s in the history of Bowman Gray Stadium. The NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 was slowed by twelve cautions, and two red flag periods. Ruston ran as high as fifth and as low as eleventh after being shuffled out of line on a restart.
“This race was just insane,” said Ruston. “When the K&N Series comes to Bowman Gray you know it’s going to be wild, but this was the craziest race I’ve ever seen here. I feel bad for all the guys, not just my guys, but all these teams that have to rebuild these cars next week.”
The mood was upbeat in the #96 Bib’s Chevrolet pits after the race. “I’m happy we finished,” said Crew Chief Mike Fritts. “We could have been a little bit better tonight, but its tough to predict how the cars will react on the modified rubber. Without a halfway break, you don’t get a chance to adjust the car, so you have to hit it perfectly. It was a good night; we’ll take a top-10 the way our luck has been lately.”
When asked about finishing top-10, Ruston said, “it’s great, I wanted to come up here and make it two in a row for Ben Kennedy Racing, but I’m certainly happy to get out of here with a top-10. We’ll take this as a team, and get ready for Five Flags Speedway in a couple weeks. I know we are going to have another fast car there.”
Bib’s Downtown owner Robert Moreau said, “I thought she drove a great race. This is a tough place, and we couldn’t have been happier with Kenzie’s performance. It was great to be a part of the Ben Kennedy Racing team this week, Kenzie is a real talent and is going to do great things in this sport.”
With her third top-10 finish of the season, Ruston moved to twelfth place in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings, eight points out of tenth. The NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 will air on Fox Sports 1, Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:30 AM.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series returns to action on June 13 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. Last season Ruston finished fifth in her lone K&N Pro Series start at the Florida short track. Team Principal Ben Kennedy won the race in dominating fashion, starting from the pole, and leading flag to flag to claim his first of two victories last season.
