McReynolds Hopes To Celebrate At Kern

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West continues its busy schedule this month with a visit to Kern County Raceway Park near Bakersfield, Calif., for the Armed Forces 150 on Saturday.

 

The event on the beautiful high-banked, half-mile oval marks the fifth of a 14-race schedule and the third event in four weeks for the series.

 

Brandon McReynolds, who drives the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota for Bill McAnally Racing, will be making his first appearance at the Kern County track in series competition.

 

“I’m looking forward to going to a race track like Kern that has a lot of grip and is really fast,” said the Mooresville, N.C., driver – who tested at the track earlier this month. “Everyone at BMR is working really hard to get our NAPA Toyota sorted out.”

 

McReynolds, who turns 23 on Wednesday, hopes to conclude his week with a belated birthday celebration in Victory Lane on Saturday night.

 

“A good way to cap off the birthday week for any race car driver is to be able to race, first of all, then on Saturday night to be hoisting the trophy,” he said. “That would be awesome.”

 

McReynolds will be looking to rebound from a subpar finish last Saturday at Iowa Speedway, where he was sidelined early by an accident. The result dropped him to fifth in the championship standings, 21 points out of first.

 

“We have to realize it’s a new week,” McReynolds said. “We had a really good start to the year. We’ve had a few recent hiccups, but that’s just part of racing. We’ve just got to keep our heads down and go out there and do the best that we can do.”

 

McReynolds, who is in his first full season of competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, is one of 12 drivers named this year to the NASCAR Next program – which spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars. He has a career record of one pole, three top fives and five top 10s in six series starts.

 

The Armed Forces 150 is the first of two visits by the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West this season to Kern County Raceway Park, which opened last year. The series returns for a second event on Aug. 30.
