Dylan Kwasniewski Wins at Road Atlanta to Clinch NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Championship

On Friday Dylan Kwasniewski made NASCAR history. He became the first driver to be champion in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West by winning the Road Atlanta 115 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race. The 18-year-old won his sixth race of the season and backed up his West Series championship from 2012 with the East Series championship in 2013.

Kwasniewski entered the season finale at Road Atlanta with a five point lead over Brett Moffitt. Kwasniewski started from the pole after qualifying was rained out on Thursday and then went onto lead all 28 laps around the 2.54 mile road course in the series’ inaugural event at the track.

Moffitt was running second on lap 6 when he experienced transmission issues. He retired from the race after lap 7 and finished 24th of 25 cars and 33 points behind Kwasniewski in second place. Mackena Bell finished 25th after clutch issues on lap 5.

The only caution came out for a spin by Akinori Ogata in Turn 10 on lap 1. He finished five laps down in 21st.

Daniel Suarez finished second, Bryan Ortiz third, Andrew Ranger fourth, and Cole Custer fifth. Ben Kennedy was sixth, Scott Heckert seventh, Brandon Gdovic eighth, Dale Quarterley ninth, and Austin Dyne tenth. Other notables in the finishing order were Kenzie Ruston in 11th, Gray Gaulding 15th, Jesse Little 16th, Eddie MacDonald 18th, Cale Conley 20th, and Ryan Gifford 22nd.

After the full 14 race schedule Kwasniewski came out on top of the points for his No. 98 Turner Scott Motorsports team. Moffitt was second to mark his fifth straight top three finish in the East Series points. He did not win a race though for the first time in any of those seasons. Finishing third was Daniel Suarez 42 points back. Ben Kennedy was fourth and Eddie MacDonald fifth. Kenzie Ruston was the highest finishing rookie in sixth, Gray Gaulding was seventh, Cole Custer eighth, Jesse Little ninth, and Brandon Gdovic tenth.
