ISC CEO Lesa France Kennedy Rides in 150-mile MS Event

Joining an estimated 2,500 cyclists, International Speedway Corporation Chief Executive Officer Lesa France Kennedy rode in the 150-mile Zimmerman MS Ride to raise funds for and awareness of the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS).

“I must thank all of our fellow riders, donors and especially my teammates who helped raise money for treatment and to educate people on what it means to live with this disease,” said France Kennedy.  “Multiple sclerosis affects the lives of so many people in the United States.  It was truly an honor to ride for those who cannot.  Also, the fact that the ride started and ended at the Homestead-Miami Speedway was especially meaningful to me.”

The two-day event got underway on Saturday, May 14, 2011, with a lap around Homestead-Miami Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval. After circling the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval, the 2,000-plus riders pedaled their way to John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo, returning to the track on Sunday, May 15.

France Kennedy was a member of the Miami Bike Scene / MIA Fixed Bike MS Team which raised over $41,000 in this event.

The ride was organized by the South Florida Chapter of the National MS Society to raise funds vital to the success of offsetting costs for services and programs benefitting South Floridians with MS, a chronic and unpredictable disease that attacks the central nervous system and affects roughly 400,000 Americans. The disease can impact the body in many ways, with symptoms ranging from mild, such as numbness in the limbs, to severe, including paralysis or loss of vision.
