Townley Shows Steady Improvement with 20th-Place Finish at Rockingham Speedway

John Wes Townley piloted the No. 09 Toyota Tundra to a 20th-place finish Sunday afternoon in the Good Sam Roadside Assistance at Rockingham Speedway. In the track’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, Townley and RAB Racing brought home a solid finish in front of a packed house.

Making the quick trip south to Rockingham, N.C., Townley and RAB Racing participated in all four scheduled Camping World Truck Series practices leading up Sunday’s event, running as high as fourth-fastest in the second practice. Showing steady improvement, Townley picked up 11 spots over his last qualifying attempt, circling the one-mile oval 20th-fastest.

After the inaugural Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 got underway, the field quickly spread out. Long green flag runs were the culprit behind half the field being a lap down by Lap 40. Townley held his line throughout the afternoon and finished in the 20th position in front of an estimated 27,500 fans.

“We came to Rockingham Speedway and did what we needed to do,” said Townley. “We brought the No. 09 Toyota Tundra home in one piece and got a top-20 finish. I think we will be a contender to run for some top-10 finishes soon and I’m looking forward to racing at Kansas Speedway.”
