Despite a rough day in their opening race of the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) season, JJL Motorsports and driver Jesse Little (@JesseLittle97) head to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway poised for a rebound in Friday night's Strat 200.
Last Saturday afternoon at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, the team fought their way from the back to the front and found themselves in contention for a top-10 finish in their No. 97 Skuttle Tight Ford F150 - but Little got collected in a late race restart accident which left the family-owned team with a 23rd place finish.
"We got crippled last weekend and even though we finished all the laps, we were disappointed with our finish," said Little.
"I was really proud of our JJL Motorsports team though. It was a challenging weekend because of the weather and with qualifying getting canceled, we had to fight from the back of the field to the front.
"JR (Norris, crew chief) and the team were able to make great gains during the race and we contended for a Top 10 finish, just lost the handle of the Truck at the end and I had a couple bad restarts. "Going forward we continue to focus on improving the speed in the Trucks and working with more sponsors and partners to expand the program."
Set for his second Truck Series start of the season, Little returns to Las Vegas Motor Speedway hoping to build on their 15th place finish at the 1.5-mile speedway last September.
"We learned a lot at Las Vegas last fall," added Little. "It was a solid finish for us, not exactly what we wanted but I think we can take how our truck responded during practice and the race and be in a much better place for the Friday's race. After last weekend, I think everyone is eager to get back to the track and get a chance to redeem ourselves."
While the No. 97 JJL Motorsports team continues to search for additional sponsorship and partners, the team does have plenty of support for the third Truck Series race of the season.
Joining the Sherrills Ford, N.C-based team as a major associate partner for the Strat 200 is John Deere | Chad Little Power Equipment, A John Deere dealer owned by Bruce Weeks, Chad Little Power Equipment has been providing quality outdoor power equipment in Maine for several years.
With two convenient locations in Brunswick and Scarborough, Chad Little Power Equipment strives to provide a variety of customers with the products they need to complete any small or large projects with a focus on John Deere products.
Additionally, the team's truck will also have additional sponsorship from Skuttle Tight, Parker FiberNet, Visit Kingsport TN, Grindstaff Rub and PFC Brakes.
Parker FiberNet was formed to build a fiber optic network infrastructure for commercial and public applications. The company has installed hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable throughout Georgia and has garnered considerable accolades for its high-quality services and professionalism.
Promoting the city's "Get Into the Outdoors" campaign, Kingsport TN offers a variety of activities including nestling in the Bays Mountain with hiking, biking and zip-lining, kayaking and tubing on the Holston River.
Founded in 2016 by U.S. Air Force veteran and restaurant entrepreneur Jim Grindstaff, Grindstaff Rub Co. started as a BBQ rub company initially releasing All Purpose and Three Kings rubs, however, the company's success has evolved into a brand and lifestyle since releasing their own version of a Bloody Mary mix.
"Even though we don't have a primary sponsor for this weekend's race, I'm still incredibly thankful for all of our partners who stepped up to the plate and are allowing us to get to Las Vegas this weekend," sounded Little. "It means a lot to me that Chad Little Power Equipment and Bruce Weeks are helping support Las Vegas. Without them and all of our partners, we'd be sitting on the sidelines Friday night.
"Hopefully, with some luck, we can reward them for their support with a win or a strong finish on Friday night."
