Top-15 finish for Ron Hornaday at Daytona

Ron Hornaday, Jr. made his debut in the No. 9 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet for Joe Denette Motorsports in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

Making his ninth start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, Hornaday practiced patience before making a charge to the front of the field with 20 laps to go. With three attempts at a green-white-checker finish, the veteran driver would hold on to a top-15 position in a last-lap shoot-out that ended in a three-truck accident in the tri-oval.

While the No. 9 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet suffered damage on the last lap of the 109-lap event, Hornaday was able to finish 14th, his fourth top-15 finish at the “World Center of Racing”.

Joe Denette Motorsports teammate, Max Gresham, had an impressive run but was involved in a lap 101 incident that relegated the rookie to a 26th-place finish in his NCWTS debut at DIS.

Ron Hornaday Quotes:

“I was really happy with my Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet tonight. We were just lying low and waiting for the right time to take the charge. We had it timed perfectly and I really thought I had a shot to get Chevrolet their first win here tonight. When it was all said and done, we just didn’t have anyone to work with. At one point, I was pushing Sauter and then he went with the 23. We got shuffled to the middle of a 3-wide draft and just lost momentum. With all the green-white-checker finishes, we weren’t able to make any ground.”
