Ankrum Comes Home Fifth In Nashville

Tyler Ankrum completed a banner night for MHR with a fifth-place performance at Nashville Superspeedway. The driver of the No. 18 Ullico Chevrolet Silverado RST joined his MHR teammates Christian Eckes and Daniel Dye to place three trucks in the top-five for the second time this season. Ankrum’s best-career result at NSS preserved his 47-point margin on the provisional playoff cutline and marked his third-consecutive top-10 finish in Music City.

Ankrum began his day at NSS by posting a time of 30.55 seconds in qualifying to start in the 14th position. The Californian battled tight handling condition throughout Stage 1 but managed to push forward to finish 10th-place on lap 45 to earn one point. Ankrum made his first visit to pit road under the stage caution to receive four tires, fuel, and a minor air pressure adjustment.

Ankrum restarted in eighth-place for the beginning of Stage 2 on lap 53. With a caution-heavy start to the second stage, Ankrum found himself in the mix with other drivers battling for a top-10 position. Throughout the remainder of the stage, he began to lose grip during the long green flag run, but maintained his spot among the stop-10. Ankrum finished Stage 2 on lap 95 while running ninth and collected two points.

Ankrum made his final pit stop of the night during the stage caution where he received four tires, fuel, and another air pressure adjustment to help with the front grip in his Ullico Chevy. A great pit stop from his team helped him begin the final stage in fifth-place on lap 103. Ankrum maintained his position throughout the last 32-lap run and took the checkered flag in fifth-place behind race winner Eckes. His fourth top-five finish on the season advanced him to sixth in the NCTS championship standings with three regular season races remaining.

Tyler Ankrum Quote:

“After those three weeks off and to comeback with a top-five is a sign that we are turning things around to where we were running in the beginning of the year. I am pumped for my guys to give them this result tonight. I can’t think Bill (McAnally), Ullico, LIUNA, and Chevy enough for what they have done for me this season. “
