Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Team Wins at Talladega

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team claimed their first win of the 2014 season in Saturday’s Fred’s 250 presented by Coca-Cola at Talladega Superspeedway. Starting from the 26th position and with expert guidance from spotter Chris Lambert, Peters quickly moved into the top five in fewer than 10 laps around the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Once near the front of the field, the red and white machine remained there for the duration of the 95-lap event. The top nine trucks ran single file at the front of the field for the first half of the race, cycling through one round of green-flag pit stops. Peters took the lead for the first time on lap 59 just as the caution flag was displayed for a stopped truck on the race track. Following the restart, the inside and outside lines battled for control of the race, swapping the lead between them. A spinning truck brought out the final caution of the day on lap 92 and set the stage for a green-white-checkered finish. Peters led the field to the green flag for the final time, and as the No. 17 team held their breaths he battled neck and neck for the final two laps, and took the checkered flag in first place to claim Red Horse Racing’s first win of the 2014 season. The victory is Peter’s first at the famed Alabama superspeedway, and the organization’s second (2012, Parker Kligerman).

Timothy Peters Quotes:

“It feels so good to be back in Victory Lane. I am so glad I could finally get (team owner) Tom DeLoach and everyone at Red Horse Racing the win they deserve. All of the guys work so hard; from those here on the road crew, the pit crew and everyone back at the shop. We have been trying so hard every week, and just have had the worst luck this year. I can’t tell them enough how much I appreciate all of their effort; and for Tom’s (DeLoach) support.

“Steve Byrnes is a dear friend to all of us and it is an honor to carry his name on the truck. I am so glad we were able to take him to Victory Lane today. We are all thinking about him and praying for him. He beat the cancer once, and he can do it again. He was our own guardian angel today.”
