Day 2: Charlotte Test of 2013 Car, Hamlin Wrecks, Speeds Way Over Track Record

It’s Day 2 and the final day of the first test with the 2013 car at Charlotte Motor Speedway. 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams participated in the two day test and the 2013 car got rave reviews. On Wednesday the Speeds were up in the morning session and rain began just 30 minutes into the second session. Kasey Kahne paced the field in both session setting a fast speed of 193.771MPH. The qualifying record at Charlotte Motor Speedway is 193.050MPH set by Greg Biffle in October.

Denny Hamlin crashed in the opening session after something broke on his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Hamlin got heavy damage on the right side of car. The top five in speeds were Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, fourth was Juan Pablo Montoya and Regan Smith, testing for Jeff Gordon was fifth quickest.

The teams will have two more test session before the start of the 2013 season. The first test is Preseason Thunder at Daytona International Speedway on January 10-12th and they will return to Charlotte Motor Speedway on January 17-18th.
