Last minute deal lands Geico on Mears car for Kansas and Homestead

There were just two races left on the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule that sat unsponsored for Germain Racing and driver Casey Mears. Earlier today, team owner Bob Germain and GEICO executives worked together to complete a deal that will have the Gecko as the primary sponsor of Mears’ #13 Ford Fusion for both Kansas and Homestead, which were the two lone unsponsored races.

The Germain Racing crew quickly found themselves scattering when the team owner ordered them to the Kansas test that begins tomorrow and continues through Thursday. The two-day test will allow them to experience the new surface and better prepare for Sunday’s race.

Germain appeared excited at knowing his team would finish out the season being able to run all of the remaining races.

“We really appreciate GEICO stepping up to make sure we were able to run Kansas and Homestead,” Germain said. “Their partnership is important to us and we appreciate the support they offer, as well as how much they engage the program. We have all hands on deck and we’re certainly looking to finish out the 2012 season in strong fashion.”

Mears, who nearly won his first restrictor plate race in Talladega just ten days ago, showed immediate reaction when learning of the news. He quickly exclaimed, “That’s awesome!” He went on to share his thoughts on GEICO and Germain Racing.

“One of the things I like most about this race team is that we all work really hard to grow the program and it makes it easier when you have a great partner in GEICO and team owner Bob Germain,” Mears said. “They are both committed to helping this race team get to the next level and I’m proud to represent such a reputable brand in GEICO and drive for a committed owner like Bob. I’m happy for the guys on this team because they work so hard and sacrifice so much to be here that when you get a nice bump like this it really helps morale.”
