NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick traded his helmet for a handcart on Wednesday during a visit to Crown Beverage in Florence, South Carolina. Harvick was in town to promote the upcoming SHOWTIME Southern 500.
The day began with a special VIP question and answer session moderated by Steve Post from the Motor Racing Network and continued with a tour of the Crown Beverage facility. Crown serves seven counties in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina and sells over 2.4 million cases of product annually. Following the facility tour Harvick hopped on a Budweiser big rig and set out to make a delivery at a local Wal-Mart.
“I had a great time today meeting the employees at Crown Beverage and learning more about how their operation works,” said Harvick. “I was really impressed with all they do and it was interesting to gain an understanding of the impact the race at Darlington Raceway has on their sales.”
Harvick is in his first season driving the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing and will bring the Bud colors to Darlington Raceway on May 7 for the SHOWTIME Southern 500. In 14 Darlington starts Harvick has five top-10 and two top-five finishes at the famed South Carolina oval.
“Darlington’s tough, but I like it,” said Harvick. “It’s a place where you have to race the track. As soon as you get comfortable and you feel like you can gain a little more speed, you end up hitting something. It’s a fast race track that has a lot of history and is a very prestigious race to win, which hopefully we can do when we return next month.”
