NBC Sports will present Racing Roots: Featuring Bubba Wallace, a 30-minute special chronicling the rookie driver’s journey to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, this Saturday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Racing Roots will air immediately following NBC’s NASCAR Cup Series qualifying coverage from Talladega Superspeedway.
Hosted by auto racing icon and NASCAR on NBC analyst Kyle Petty, and NASCAR on NBC’s resident automobile aficionado Rutledge Wood, Racing Roots provides an in-depth look at how Bubba Wallace became the first African American since Hall of Famer Wendell Scott to win a NASCAR National Series race.
The driver of Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 Chevy brings Wood and Petty back to his hometown of Concord, N.C., where his competitive love for speed and stock cars began. The episode features visits to Concord Speedway, where the 2018 Daytona 500 runner-up first raced Legends cars, and his current home with girlfriend Amanda Carter. Highlighted by interviews with Wallace’s mom Desiree, team owner Richard Petty, as well as friend and manager Kyle Hall, Saturday’s Racing Roots examines the young life of a NASCAR star that is already making history.
“It was an honor to be able to show Kyle and Rutledge a piece of my life,” said Wallace. “My family, friends, home and local race track are a huge part of the reason I am successful today. I hope this small glimpse inspires others to defy boundaries, think beyond their expectations, and do what they love.”

As part of NBC Sports Group’s comprehensive coverage of the 2018 NASCAR season, Racing Roots is an on-going series that dives deep into the hometown stories of NASCAR’s biggest stars. The 30-minute documentaries peal back the on-track exterior to showcase the hometowns, teachers, coaches and friends that helped shape today’s superstars.
