Robinson-Blakeney Racing to field Cup car in ’12

Veteran Nationwide Series team owner Jay Robinson has partnered with Troy Blakeney of Houston to form Robinson-Blakeney Racing, LLC, and will field a Sprint Cup Series car with Toyota as its manufacturer. The new team intends to run full time in both series this year.

“I am very excited about our new venture into the Cup Series”, Robinson said. “We have all of the cars and equipment in place. We are hoping to hire a driver very soon.”

The No. 28 Nationwide car will continue into the 2012 season with a variety of drivers throughout the season. Jeff Spraker and his Spraker Racing Enterprises group have been hired to head up the Nationwide efforts.

Robinson is no stranger to the sport. His team has entered every Nationwide race since 2001 with drivers that included Derrike Cope (former Daytona 500 champion), Kenny Wallace, Dennis Setzer and Mark Green.

Blakeney is relatively new to the sport and brings a wealth of business knowledge and experience which will certainly prove to be an asset in the venture. “I have enjoyed watching the sport from afar and look forward to enjoying the excitement and thrills of being on the inside,” he said.

Robinson-Blakeney Racing will run Toyotas from its Monroe, N.C., based shop. The team will soon be announcing its drivers, crew chiefs and sponsorships.
