NSCS: Matt Kenseth Wins New Hampshire 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Matt Kenseth took his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team to victory lane on Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kenseth led two different times over the course of the event for a total of 38 laps. The Wisconsin native scored his second win of the year in 2016.

“I don’t know about that, it’s a testament to these guys standing behind me,” said Kenseth when asked about having three victories at New Hampshire on NBCSN. “This has never been one of my good tracks, but Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) has a great setup here and I have great teammates. Certainly when I first got here, Kyle (Busch) and Denny (Hamlin) taught me a lot about this place that I applied every lap today. Just fortunate guy to be driving this thing, when they drive this good it definitely makes my job a lot easier.”

Toyota will take the weekend sweep as teammate Kyle Busch went to victory lane in Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at New Hampshire. Busch would also dominate the New Hampshire 301 as he led four different times for 133 laps. He will leave the 1.058-mile oval with an eighth-place finish and as the driver who lead the most laps of the event.

Tony Stewart will leave New Hampshire with a second-place finish in his No. 14 Haas Automation Chevrolet. Stewart started the afternoon in 12th and would stay further back throughout the first half of the race. He would then make a mad dash to the front as numerous cautions would fly as the checkered flag neared. The finish will give Stewart his third top five and fifth top 10 finish since his return at Richmond. He now sits 28th in driver points.

“I like it.  The hardest part about it honestly is just the restarts,” said Stewart after the race on NBCSN. “You’ve got two lanes of cars going into Turn 1 that are all fighting for one lane.  As much as Kentucky last week we had tires that weren’t very easy to race on this is probably the best tire I think Goodyear has ever brought to Loudon.  I mean you could run all over the race track during the day.  They are working hard at it and they are getting better, so just keep plugging away with those guys.  But, I’m happy I mean this is the kind of day we wanted here and we are getting close.”

Joey Logano took his No. 22 Shell/Penzoil Ford to a third-place finish in Sunday’s event at New Hampshire. Logano started the afternoon in sixth and stayed upfront all throughout the afternoon. The Middletown, CT. native holds eight top five and 12 top 10 finishes through 19 races in 2016.

Martin Truex Jr. showed dominance throughout the day at New Hampshire by leading 123 laps. Truex suffered an issue when fourth gear became stuck in his No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota. He would later find himself running 16th when the race ended.

The next race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be next Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Coverage will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET. on NBCSN. IMS Radio Network and SiriusXM NASCAR will have the live radio broadcast.
