Roush Fenway’s Edwards Moves Into Tie for Chase Points Lead

Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth finished third and fifth respectively to lead the organization’s strong effort in the AAA 400 Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway. Edwards dominated early, leading 116 laps in the race, and used the strong performance to move into a tie for the Sprint Cup points lead. With three of 10 Chase races in the books Kenseth leaves Dover tied for sixth; 14 points out of first.

David Ragan and Greg Biffle finished 21st and 27th in the race. Biffle was top five early, but had to battle back from an early commitment cone penalty. He was running back inside the top 10, when he made hard contact with the inside wall off turn four late in the race.

Edwards and Kenseth each made strong bids for victory. Edwards was forced to race back onto the lead lap after a late pit-road speeding penalty. Kenseth and crew chief Jimmy Fennig elected four tires late in the race and were never quite able to recover from the loss of track position. Still, both were able to post top-five finishes on the day; keeping their championship hopes alive.

Roush Fenway returns to action next weekend at Kansas Motor Speedway. Roush Fenway has won three times and led over 750 laps in Sprint Cup action at Kansas.
