"The King" Richard Petty took center stage at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N.Y. Thursday night when he was presented the Cameron R. Argetsinger Award for Outstanding Contributions to Motorsports at the International Motor Racing Research Center Award Dinner.

The dinner was presented by NASCAR, International Speedway Corp. and Watkins Glen International.  Smithfield Foods also supported the night's activities to recognize Petty's career while Ford Performance was in attendance.

Petty, the winningest driver in NASCAR with 200 wins, was toasted by leaders of the motorsports world including NASCAR President Mike Helton and IndyCar legend Bobby Rahal. Chip Ganassi and Petty's current drivers, Aric Almirola and Sam Hornish joined Kyle Petty, Dale Inman  and Bob Weber who all spoke about Petty's astounding career.

The award memorializes Cameron R. Argetsinger, founder and organizer of the first races at Watkin Glen.  Ganassi was the first recipient of the Argetsinger Award in 2014.

Petty competed in eight NASCAR races at Watkins Glen, including July 19, 1964, when both he and his father, the legendary Lee Petty, were on the track. It was Lee Petty's final career race.

Richard Petty Motorsports competes this weekend at Watkins Glen International. The organization has two wins at the track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and one win in the XFINITY Series at the road course.
