After Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified 20th in Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series time trials, the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team opted to change the transmission for Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Earnhardt said his Chevrolet got stuck in second gear in Turn 11 as he was coming to green for his second qualifying run. Under road course rules, Earnhardt can keep his starting spot and will not have to drop to the rear for the green flag on Sunday.
