NSCS: Waltrip to Pilot No. 55 at Talladega

Michael Waltrip Racing announced Thursday that owner Michael Waltrip will pilot the No. 55 Aaron’s Toyota at the Talladega Superspeedway on May 3. Moffitt has been filling-in for Vickers as he recovers from a recurrence of blood clots since the Auto Club Speedway in March.

“Talladega is a place where I know we will be very competitive,” said Waltrip in a press release, who owns four restrictor plate victories including a Talladega win in the fall of 2003. “This will be my 58th Sprint Cup start at Talladega so believe me when I tell you Talladega is some of the best racing in the world and I’m glad I’ll get to be part of it again in the Aaron’s Dream Machine.”

Waltrip and Aaron’s has been together for 15 years.

“We’ve had a long-standing relationship with MWR and Michael is part of the Aaron’s family – he will represent Aaron’s well as the No. 55 Dream Machine driver at Talladega,” said Andrea Freeman, Vice President of Marketing, Aaron’s, Inc. “Talladega proves to be one of the most exciting races in the Sprint Cup Series and we know Michael will be in his element at this race.”

Waltrip has 779 career Sprint Cup Series starts since making his debut in 1985. He has four victories, 41 top five and 132 top 10 finishes. Waltrip has started on the pole in four different races.

Waltrip is also scheduled to run a Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota at the Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 25.
