Late-Race Contact Leaves Patrick 26th

Danica Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), finished 26th in Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500k NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway after late-race contact from the No. 18 car sent her spinning in turn four.

Patrick started the event from the 23rd position and quickly raced her way into the top-20. Crew chief Daniel Knost called for adjustments throughout the race to help improve the No. 10’s handling. Midway through the race Patrick dropped to 26th as she battled a car that she said was too tight in the center of the corner and “felt like it was out of the track.”

She gained ground on the following two runs, but the team suffered a setback when it was penalized by NASCAR for an uncontrolled tire on pit road after a stop for right-side tires and fuel at lap 201. Since the team was going to have to restart at the tail of the field due to the penalty, Knost called Patrick back down pit road for left-side tires and to top off with fuel. The No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet restarted from the 27th position at lap 205.

Patrick was scored 23rd when the No. 18 car made contact with the left-rear quarter panel of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet and sent her spinning in turn four at lap 297. She pulled the racecar down pit road for fresh tires and restarted 27th at lap 301. Patrick was able to gain one position in the final laps of the race and finished 26th.

“Today wasn’t one of our best days,” Patrick said. “The GoDaddy team put forth a ton of effort today, but we’ve got to start turning effort into results.”
