Kurt Busch Joins Stewart-Haas Racing, Will be Sponsored by Haas Automation

Saturday, Aug 31 3514

The possibility of Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, and Danica Patrick on the same NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team is becoming a reality.

Kurt Busch has signed with Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2014 season and beyond.

“I’ve inked my deal,” said Busch.

News broke last week that SHR had offered Busch a contract with the team, and it didn’t take the 2004 Cup champion long to make a decision.

Busch is currently driving for Furniture Row Racing this season, after driving most of last season for Phoenix Racing, after his departure from Penske Racing.

Busch has had quite a personality turnaround. Busch left Penske Racing under ignominious circumstances after losing his temper at an ESPN reporter at Dover in 2011.

While at Furniture Row this season Busch has been on his best behavior and has exceeded expectations. He’s made a complete turnaround in his career. He’s 13th in the Sprint Cup standings. He was in the top 10 before a bad wheel hub at Bristol ruined his race.

Busch’s sponsorship while with SHR will come from Haas Automation, the company that co-owner, Gene Haas, owns.

SHR had previously said that SHR would not be expanding to four teams after Ryan Newman’s departure and Harvick’s joining the team was announced, but Haas wanted to bring Busch on and was willing to put his own company on the car.

With Busch joining the SHR team there will be a lot of personalities on the team next season. Busch and Stewart has a run-in at Richmond earlier this season after a late race contact and Harvick and Busch’s brother, Kyle, aren’t the best of friends.

Add in Danica Patrick, the only female driver in the Sprint Cup Series, and you’ve got a well-rounded group of drivers who aren’t strangers to getting fired up and saying what’s on their minds.

SHR is starting to become a NASCAR dream team and next season will show teams like Henderick Motorsports and Penske Racing what they will be up against.
