Texas Proves Another Tough Outing for Kennedy

Ben Kennedy, driver of the No. 33 JACOB Companies Chevrolet, earned a 13th-place finish in Friday night’s Striping Technology 350 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Kennedy started the 147-lap event from the 18th position, after struggling to find good handling during the day’s lone practice session and failing to advance to the second round of qualifying. Early in the event Kennedy reported to crew chief Joey Cohen that he was experiencing a tight-handling chassis. The Daytona Beach, Fla., native fell back to the 20th position before the caution clock expired for the first time on lap 40. Cohen brought him to pit road for four tires, fuel, and track bar and wedge adjustments. The No. 33 team restarted from the 20th position and worked his way up to the 16th position before the second yellow flag period. Kennedy said he was dealing with a snapping loose condition during that green flag run and visited pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Quick work by the pit crew returned Kennedy to the track in the 16th position. He continued to fight the same loose condition throughout the remainder of the event, advancing as high as 11th, but ultimately falling back to the 13th position as the event came to a close. Kennedy is sixth in the Chase standings, 13 points out of the last transfer spot, with one race remaining in the round of six.

BEN KENNEDY QUOTE:
“We just missed the mark tonight. We struggled in practice to find the right set up but thought we had it figured out for the race. It’s a difficult position to be in. This team has been so strong all season so we just need to regroup and go win at Phoenix.”
