Tyler Reddick Texas Motor Speedway 2016 Recap

Tyler Reddick (@TylerReddick) overcame a spin and sizzling cockpit temperatures to score a fifth-place finish in the Rattlesnake 400 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.

Reddick scored his third top-five finish in five NCWTS starts at Texas and claimed his second consecutive top five of the 2016 season.  He ranks sixth in the series championship standings and has gained 10 points positions over the past five races.

Reddick qualified fifth and ran solidly among the top five until he cut a right-side tire and spun in Turn 4 on lap 52, bringing out the second caution of the 167-lap race.  While Reddick limped back to the pits, the shredded tire damaged the right rear of his Cooper Standard Ford F-150 and knocked out the interior crush panels that insulate the driver from engine heat, causing the temperature inside his truck to soar.

Crew chief Doug Randolph and the Cooper Standard team hastily made three pit stops during this caution for repairs.  Despite their fast work and supreme effort, the sequence of events dropped Reddick a lap down.  He restarted in 22nd place when the race went green on lap 59.

From there, the main objective for Reddick and the team was to make up the lost distance. He moved up through traffic and was in hot pursuit of the free pass position when the third caution slowed the race on lap 97.  Reddick pitted on lap 101 for four tires, adjustments, and more repair work on the right rear.  He restarted 18th when the race went green on lap 104.

Two laps later, Reddick moved himself up one spot and into position to receive the free pass back onto the lead lap.  He cashed in on that opportunity when the fourth and final caution of the race waved on lap 121.  Reddick pitted on lap 123 for four tires and adjustments to aid his loose handling truck, and he restarted 15th on lap 125.

From there, the rally was on.  Reddick stormed his through traffic, climbing into the top 10 by lap 134.  He was ninth by lap 144 and moved up to eighth by lap 149.  Reddick passed John Hunter Nemechek for seventh place on lap 159.  On the final lap of the race, Reddick passed both Timothy Peters and Rico Abreu to claim fifth place at the checkered flag.
