Tyler Reddick Phoenix International Raceway Recap

Tyler Reddick (@tylerreddick), driver of the No. 19 Reese Towpower Ford F-150, scored a 10th-place finish in Friday night’s Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix (Avondale, Ariz.) International Raceway.  Reddick claimed his eighth top 10 finish of the season and grabbed Sunoco Rookie of the Race honors for the eighth time in 2014.

The scheduled 150-lap race at the one mile desert track was one of the oddest NASCAR races in recent memory.  The start was delayed for nearly an hour due to a power outage and another blackout on lap 126 led NASCAR officials to decide to call the race with just 24 laps remaining.  Seven cautions slowed the pace for 48 laps.  A multiple truck accident on lap 2 dumped oil on the frontstretch which forced the next 17 laps to be run under yellow as officials used a heavy amount of speedy dry to soak up the fluid.  The race was red flagged on lap 43 so safety crews could remove a race truck from the track following an accident in Turn 3.

Reddick qualified seventh and by lap 35 had climbed up to fourth position.  He was running sixth at lap 47 and stayed there until a cycle of green flag pit stops began on lap 83.  He was running second when he made his scheduled stop on lap 91 for four tires and adjustments.  When the pit sequence was complete on lap 96, Reddick was 13th but one lap down.

The fifth caution of the race on lap 101 threatened to pin Tyler a lap down but he was able to race his way back on to the lead lap, earning the free pass as the first of the trucks one lap down when the sixth caution came out on lap 114.

Reddick restarted ninth when the race went green on lap 119 and survived the chaotic restart and hard racing in traffic that followed.  He was holding down 10th-place when the lights went out on lap 126, bringing out the seventh and final caution.
