Timothy Peters: Red Horse Racing Talladega Superspeedway Team Advance

SUPERSPEEDWAY MOMENTUM: Timothy Peters and his No. 17 Parts Plus Toyota Tundra are the most recent winners in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Peters and his Red Horse Racing team both captured their first 1.5-mile victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the Smith’s 350. With high momentum coming off his second win of the season and past success on Superspeedway racing, Peters is looking for his first trip to Victory Lane at Talladega Superspeedway. Peters has four starts at the 2.66-mile tri-oval with one top five and two top-10 finishes.

SUPERSPEEDWAY SWEEP: During the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Red Horse Racing visited victory lane at both Superspeedway races on the schedule – Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway so the top-tiered organization is a threat to secure the checkered flag at races end.

HOMECOMING WEEKEND: Red Horse Racing Team Manager, Kevin Ray calls Talladega Superspeedway home. The Eastaboga native was raised racing go-karts making his way into the ARCA Racing Series. In five races at Talladega Superspeedway, Ray’s best finish was fourth in 1995. Ray has been with Red Horse Racing since 2006.

CHASSIS HISTORY: When entering a race where there is a chance for anything to happen, it’s a perfect fit to be in a Chassis you are comfortable with. That will be the case with Timothy Peters and his No. 17 Parts Plus Toyota Tundra as they utilize chassis No. 108 this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Peters ran Chassis 108 at Daytona International Speedway earlier this season In 2012, chassis 108 finished fifth at Talladega Superspeedway and second in February at Daytona with Peters behind the wheel.

REARVIEW MIRROR – LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY: Timothy Peters came to Las Vegas Motor Speedway hoping to cash in on the Smith’s 350. He qualified 12th but quickly moved into the top-10 after the green flag waved. Under crew chief Butch Hylton’s direction, the team calibrated pit strategy to be sure the Parts Plus Tundra would be there at the checkered flag. Scored in second position on the final caution, Peters executed a textbook restart gaining the lead with three laps to go. Peters never looked back and went on to capture his second win of the season and seventh in his career. The win marked Peters’ 10th top-10 finish in 2013 and moved him up to sixth in the driver point standings.

How do you feel entering what everyone calls ‘the wildcard’ of the final race stretch?

“I feel good about it because Red Horse swept both superspeedway races last year so this gives me confidence knowing that we perform well on this type of track. Our speedway race earlier this year wasn’t what we wanted but we ran well in our Parts Plus Tundra. You can never predict when and where bad luck is going to happen but if you know it’s going to happen, you just don’t want to be caught up in it. We’ll try to stay up front like we did last year and finish as high as possible.

Knowing you have a solid chassis under you and a victory on a superspeedway, does it give you confidence to win two races in a row?

“It does. The cool part about winning in Las Vegas is that for the last couple of weeks we’ve been the most recent winner. Everyone will have their chest out and hoping for another victory and a solid finish.”
