Ryan Blaney Iowa Post-Race Report

Ryan Blaney (@RyanBlaney22), driver of the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150, made his third career start at Iowa Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Sunday afternoon in the Fan Appreciation 200 Presented by New Holland after qualifying his Ford 9th Saturday evening.

Blaney came out determined to defend last year’s race title, making his way up to seventh by lap 25 and looking strong early in the going.

Due to a caution on lap 37, crew chief, Doug Randolph brought Blaney in for four tires, fuel and a minor adjustment to help Blaney loosen up in the center. Blaney entered and exited without losing any spots on pit road after a very efficient pit stop by the Cooper Standard team.

The No. 29 machine continued to battle as it made its way up to the fifth position on lap 77 after the leader came in to pit. By lap 81, Blaney found himself in the fourth position and he cracked the top three by lap 116, as the Cooper Standard team continued to make adjustments in order to get the BKR driver upfront.

On lap 187, with 13 to go, Blaney found himself on the outside of teammate, Ross Chastain on the restart and was able to get around the No. 19 BKR driver, making his way up to the first position until another caution flag came out. Under caution Blaney had an issue getting his Cooper Standard F-150 up to speed, because of a fuel issue and ended up being penalized by NASCAR for not maintaining proper pace. Blaney was repositioned to eighth place. Randolph brought Blaney in for fuel and four fresh tires, with the intention of not running out of fuel and having fresh tires just in case there was another couple shots at a green-white-checkered.

Blaney came home with a solid 10th place finish after leading three laps in a competitive F-150.

The No. 29 BKR team currently sits seventh in the NCWTS driver points standings, 84 points back from first.

“This was such a bummer today. I thought we were in prime position to defend our race title here at Iowa Speedway, but we just didn’t have all the pieces in place to do so. It’s a great feeling knowing your team is bringing this type of equipment week in and week out to the race track. We will be in victory lane soon with this type of effort and I can’t wait until Chicago.” – Ryan Blaney
