Brian Wong, driver of the No.25 Momofuku Toyota Tundra, qualified 19th and finished 12th during his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) debut in Sunday’s 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.
Making his first career start, Wong became the first Chinese-American driver to compete in any of the top-3 tiers of NASCAR.
Wong, an experienced road course racer from Newport Beach, California, came back twice from falling a lap down during the 64-lap event on the 10-turn, 2.459-mile Canadian road course – reaching as high as the eighth position during the event.
“We experienced a little bit of everything today. The guys gave me a great Toyota Tundra this weekend. I made some mistakes and fell a lap down twice. A lot happens in a short amount of time,” said Wong. “So much fun – I was tested early running back up through traffic and also got a taste of racing near the front. I learned a bunch and very satisfied and hope to be back again soon.”
Wong is very thankful for the support on and off the track.
“It is really satisfying to have the support of my family and sponsors, especially having them on-hand this weekend to share in the experience. I’m thankful for everyone who made the weekend possible – it was a total group effort. I can’t thank everyone from Momofuku, GT Channel and Nitty enough for their support.”
In addition to Sunday’s top-15 performance, Brian Wong has made 3 career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts with Venturini Motorsports – all on road courses – finishing a career best 2nd at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2014. Brian is the first Chinese American to score a podium finish in both the American Le Mans Series (now TUDOR United Sports Car Series) as well as the ARCA Series.
