Jamie Dick returns to the NASCAR XFINITY Series this weekend at the Iowa Speedway for the first time since Phoenix Raceway earlier this year. The Viva Motorsports owner was hospitalized for a short period of time after the race for new onset diabetes. He was cleared to race beginning this weekend.
While making laps around the 0.875-mile oval in the first of two practice sessions, a lead, according to a statement from Ross Chastain, left his car and hit the lower driver side windshield of the No. 55 Chevrolet.
While nobody were injured in the incident, the No. 55 Chevrolet Jamie Dick was driving incurred a lot of damage. The racing team will have to switch to the backup as the damage was too significant.
Chastain released the following statement on Twitter:
“On behalf of myself and everybody at JD Motorsports, I want to apologize to Jamie and everyone at Viva Motorsports. Words don’t mean much now but I’ll do everything I can to make this right and changes will be made on our end. Right now I’m just glad my friend is alright.”
