Athenian Motorsports expands their operation to include a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team to its lineup for the 2014 season. John Wes Townley will run the No. 05 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra for the remainder of the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.
“We already knew we were going to run some NCWTS races in 2015,” John Wes Townley said. “The opportunity arose this season to bring the trucks to Athenian Motorsports. With that, we will run the remainder of the 2014 truck series season through Athenian.”
Townley is currently in ninth-place in 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver points after just eight of 22 races.
The No. 05 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra will race next at Iowa Speedway, Friday, July 11, 2014.
Townley has one previous ARCA Racing Series and four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts on the .875-mile track posting his best finish of 11th in 2013.
“Iowa is a hybrid speedway but is a short track,” Townley said. “Track position is important at Iowa. It is a fast short track with high banking which makes passing difficult. I know Mike Beam and the Athenian Motorsports team has a great Tundra for the race so, I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans and hopefully bringing home another top-five finish for Zaxby’s”
