Michael Self finished 32nd Saturday night in his Xfinity Series debut race, the U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.
Driving the Nebraska Transport Company Chevrolet for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller, Self parked his car after 179 laps after blowing a tire.
Self had a solid qualifying run, starting the race 19th. He raced as high as 15th.
“Overall, this weekend was incredible for my Xfinity debut and first time back in a car in a year and a half,” Self said. “I learned a tremendous amount, and the guys at JD Motorsports were great to work with. We practiced well, qualified inside the top 20, and raced inside the top 15, which was like a win for me.
“Unfortunately, the blown tire really set us back and forced us to settle for a finish we didn’t deserve, but I’m proud of what we accomplished.”
