The Easter Bunny will be among the visitors at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, April 4 when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour makes a stop at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.
America’s Hometown Track returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the running of the Easter Bunny NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150. The event will also feature the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors in a pair of 75-lap races.
Prior to the racing action, the Easter Bunny will host an Easter Egg Hunt at noon behind the turn 1 grandstands. The Easter Bunny will also participate in the Fan Appreciation Session trackside prior to the green flag waving at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s event will mark the third of the season for the stars of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Eric Goodale won the season-opening event for the tour on March 15, while Andy Seuss scored a victory on March 28. The first two races of the season were held at Caraway Speedway.
Saturday’s race will mark the first of two appearances scheduled in 2015 at South Boston Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The return trip for the touring series is scheduled for Sept. 19.
Goodale currently owns an eight-point lead over Jason Myers in the championship chase for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Burt Myers is third in the standings, just four points out of second place and only one point ahead of fourth-place J.R. Bertuccio.
John Smith sits fifth in the standings. He is only one point out of fourth place and only three points ahead of a sixth-place tie between Seuss, Ryan Preece, Gary Putnam and Frank Fleming.
The NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors have already been in action once this season on March 21 when twin 100-lap races were held at America’s Hometown Track.
Former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris and current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standout Timothy Peters claimed wins in those events.
Morris won the first race and was followed in the top five by Peters, Mark Wertz, Nick Smith and former two-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series nation champion Lee Pulliam.
Peters claimed the victory in the nightcap and was followed in the top five by Matt Bowling, Bobby McCarty, Juan Garcia and Nick Smith.
Grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 11:45 a.m. The Fan Appreciation Session will be held at 1:15 p.m.
Advance tickets to the April 4 event are priced at $10 and can be purchased through 5 p.m. Friday, April 3. Adult general admission tickets on race day will be priced at $15. Children, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 each with a paying adult, and children ages six and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
A limited number of advanced tickets and suite tickets also remain on sale at South Boston Speedway for the Eighth-Annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, which will be hosted by America’s Hometown Track on April 23.
Chase Elliott, the 2014 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion, along with other NASCAR stars such as David Ragan, Timothy Peters, Hermie Sadler, Jeb Burton and Gray Gaulding, are among the competitors slated to battle it out in the event, which benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation and its ongoing support of Cystic Fibrosis research and treatment.
