Brandon Jones triumphed in Phoenix in the LS Tractor 200 to earn his second career win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Pit stops played a crucial role in earning and maintaining track position throughout the race. Jones made his pivotal pit stop on lap 130 that put him in fourth on the restart. This gained him the track position he needed to make a run for the win.
“I told (crew chief) Jeff (Meendering) kind of early in the race… I’m like, ‘Man, I’m just lacking track position — that’s the only thing I’m lacking,'” Jones said. “The pit crew did a heck of a job, and they said, ‘There you go. There’s your track position,’ and it paid off at the end.”
Kyle Busch, who started on the pole, ran up front with another NASCAR Cup Series front-runner, Brad Keselowski. Both drivers ran strong throughout the day.
As the laps wound down, the racing began to heat up. With 20 laps to go, Jones got a great run off of Turn 3 and 4 that propelled him pass JGR teammate Kyle Busch. Harrison Burton passed Kyle Busch for the second position before the checkered flag waved.

Rounding out the top five at Phoenix Raceway were Harrison Burton, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Justin Haley.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series will be back in action on Saturday, March 14 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the EchoPark Automotive 250 on FS1 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Brandon Jones won Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway. Jones passed his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch with 20 laps to go and was able to hold off the NASCAR Cup Series champion to win for the second time in his career. His other win came at Kansas Speedway last October.
For Toyota, this was their 500th win in NASCAR.
Kyle Busch, who started from the pole on Saturday, was chasing his 12th career Xfinity Series win at Phoenix. Busch led a race-high 78 laps, but was passed by Jones in the final 20 laps.
Last week’s winner at Fontana, Harrison Burton, also passed Busch and finished runner-up to Brandon Jones on Saturday.
Rounding out the top five were Brad Keselowski in fourth and Justin Haley in fifth.
Rounding out the top ten were Chase Briscoe in sixth, Noah Gragson in seventh, Austin Cindric in eighth, Ross Chastain in ninth and Riley Herbst in tenth.
Following the conclusion of Saturday’s race, Dillion Bassett and Brandon Brown and their crew chiefs got into an altercation on pit road. Bassett reached into Brown’s car while he was parked on pit road after the race. The two drivers had previously made contact on Lap 137.
Both met with NASCAR after the race.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series will head to Atlanta Motor Speedway, Saturday March 14th in the running of the EchoPark 250 with coverage beginning at 4 p.m. ET on FS1.

INDIANAPOLIS— For the Lilly Diabetes 200 from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the cars in the NASCAR Xfinity Series will have a different look when they hit the track for practice. Teams in the Xfinity garage will be running the 2016 splitter and spoiler, air ducts, and a restrictor plate in effort to create more passing and a better race.
Wayne Auton, Managing Director of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, emphasized on Friday morning that the changes were just for the Xfinity Series only.
“We did some extensive testing with sim work, we did a track test back in October before we went to the next race. This is all about the NASCAR Xfinity Series here at Indianapolis. I want to make that crystal clear,” said Auton.
In October, three teams came to Indianapolis to test the package. The drivers who participated in the test were Ryan Reed, Blake Koch, and Brandon Jones.
During the test, single car speeds were running around 56 seconds, but decreased to around 54 seconds when the cars were in a small pack.
“The one thing we did see was three cars running together once they got there cars dialed in is that halfway down the front stretch we had two cars lock up and run the single car down and pass them. We feel very confident that it will create some excitement to the race,” said Auton.
NASCAR added aero ducts in the same place where brake ducts went. The aero ducts are the most notable change according to Auton. Teams cannot make any changes to the aero ducts. NASCAR went to each shop over the past two months to make sure that the aero ducts would fit.
When it comes to returning to the 2016 splitter and spoiler, Wayne Auton said the teams still had those pieces still in the shop from last season. The spoiler and splitter were added to create some balance and wake to create some passing.
“The bigger spoiler it gets the balance back in the car, but we had to add the splitter to the front end to keep the balance there. The bigger spoiler will also make the wake. it’s a combination of the four ingredients on the car that make this package work.”
As teams look for ways to cut costs, NASCAR fully funded the effort this weekend at Indianapolis. Teams only had to build the cars to where NASCAR could place the appropriate parts.
“We supplied the ducts, the foam sealant, and all the bolts. The teams had absolutely no costs in the parts and pieces on the car. They had the spoilers and splitters from last year. We had the ducts in our possession at all times. Nobody could get their hands on them. We personally put them in every car here today.”
Auton emphasized that this was a collaborative effort amongst all partners. Auton stressed that everyone wants this package to work. NASCAR will constantly be in the garage talking to teams and sharing information across manufacturer lines in an effort to make this package work. “The teams were very instrumental in this package. They were all in,” said Auton.
After the event, NASCAR will talk to teams after the event to determine if the package was successful or not. However, Auton emphasized it will be what the fans thought about the event.
“It’s going to be hard to say if this will be a successful race or not. We will talk to fans and see what they say about it. We are very excited about it. It has been awhile since I have been excited about getting to a racetrack to try something new,”
When asked if this package could potentially be used in future races this season or in 2018, Auton stated, “Let’s concentrate on Indianapolis right now. This is a big test for us to. The results of that test in October showed it was the right way to go. We will be out in the garage listening to the drivers to see if we need to make any adjustments before tomorrow,” said Auton.
Ultimately, Auton hopes that it “is going to better than what we saw with three drivers at the test.”
After spinning from the lead early in the race and then working his way back to the front of the field, Brandon Jones heads to victory lane in the Corrigan Oil 200 from Michigan International Speedway in the ARCA Racing Series presented my Menard’s. This is Jones’ second consecutive victory at Michigan
“It was crazy for sure. Our car went a way a little bit. We were dominant right there early on. I told my crew we needed a little more front turn and I don’t know if the track heated up because the sun started coming out. All in all, a great day,” said Jones to Fox Sports 1 post-race in victory lane.
Early in the race, Jones was leading the race, but hit oil on the track and went for a spin. Jones was able to stay on the lead lap. After hitting pit road, Jones worked his way back to the front of the field. Jones worked his way up to the second position, but was battling a loose race car. Jones was able to pass Kyle Weatherman in the final 10 laps of the race as Weatherman hit the wall and made his way to pit road. Jones led
Austin Theriault finished in the second, Dalton Sergeant finished third, Bret Holmes finished fourth, and Gus Dean finished in the fifth position after receiving a flat tire on the last lap.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl.— Brandon Jones will start from the pole in today’s Powershares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway with a speed of 184.472 mph. This is the second year in a row that a Richard Childress Racing driver will start from the pole.
Ryan Reed qualified second at a speed of 184.253 mph. Brennan Poole qualified third at a speed of 183.984 mph. Daniel Hemric qualified fourth at 183.854 mph. Ty Dillon rounded out the top-five with a speed of 183.741 mph.
Drivers who did not qualify for today’s race include Mark Thompson, who did not make a lap, Stephen Leicht, Morgan Shepard, and Mike Harmon.
NASCAR confiscated the tires of Austin Dillon during the first round of qualify. Wayne Auto said NASCAR found a substance, like Armor All, on the tires. Dillon and his team will only have three sets for the race. There will be no further penalties.
