Closing Strength Helps Secure 11th Place for Armstrong at Texas
Racing Friday night under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) WinStar World Casino 400 spawned opportunity for Dakoda Armstrong and his No. 60 WinField racing team. Working on a race trim package during practice on Thursday proved to be beneficial, hitting on a setup that was favorable to Armstrong from his first report after the green flag dropped. Starting from the 17th position, he was able to pick off positions as the sun went down and his Silverado picked up speed.
With only three cautions in the 167-lap event, the 21-year-old was able to make the most of the green flag racing conditions as he clicked off lap times faster than the leaders in the second half of each run. Crew chief Gere Kennon called for no adjustments to the WinField Silverado on the final two pit stops, showing the strength of their machine. Armstrong then made powerful moves in the closing laps, including an exciting pass in the final turn, to claim an 11th place finish.
"We just need to work on getting as good on the beginning of the run as we are at the end of the run and we will definitely be up front contending for wins,” Armstrong concluded. “I'm proud of this Turn One Racing team for giving me such a fast WinField Silverado that kept us in contention and allowed me to race competitively with the leaders. I think we had a top-five truck tonight, but if we keep coming to the track with fast trucks each week like this the finishes will come.”
Armstrong’s finish helps him maintain his 10th place standing in NCWTS driver points. The series will take nearly two weeks off before heading to Kentucky Speedway on Thursday, June 27 for the UNOH 225. Race coverage will begin on SPEED at 9 pm ET.
