Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) will be making their 11^th start in the NASCAR K&N East Series this coming weekend at Dover International Speedway also known as the “Monster Mile” for the Drive Sober 150 presented  by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. The team is pleased to have Trey Hutchens behind the wheel of the No. 1 Gunma Toyopet Toyota Camry.

This is Hutchens’ second time driving for Hattori Racing Enterprises and his eighth start of the 2014 K&N East season.   Dover has been a good track to Hutchens, his best finish came at The Monster Mile  in 2013 when he finished eighth  after starting the event from the 26^th starting position. 

This weekend the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will be joining the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASACAR Sprint Cup Series.  The K&N East Series will have practice on Friday September 25 with an autograph session, qualifying and the race taking place on Saturday September 26.  The NASCAR K&N East Series Drive Sober 150 will be televised on Fox Sports1 on October 4 at 10 am ET.

Life is good for Codie Rohrbaugh.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie enters the final race of the season on the heels of a career-best finish this past weekend in the X-1R Pro Cup Series.

Now, the driver of the No. 05 Grant County Mulch Toyota Camry hopes he’s able to carry the momentum from last Saturday night’s race at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park into Dover (Del) International Speedway.

“Our second place run at Southern National was awesome,” said Rohrbaugh. “If we had a couple more laps who knows what would have happened, but to get my career best finish is a great confidence booster heading into Dover this weekend.”

Indeed, Rohrbaugh, will meet Miles the Monster for the first time in his career, when the Drive Sober 150 accelerates towards the checkered flag for the final time in 2014, but first the two must get acquainted.

“You hear so much about Dover, but it will be a great moment to experience it for myself this week,” added Rohrbaugh. “It’s a tough place, I don’t think there’s any denying that, but I’m up and used to challenges, so I can’t wait to see what Dover brings.”

Rohrbaugh will attempt to make just his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series start and first since New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July. The nearly two month gap between races has allowed the Grant County Mulch to fine-tune their machine, while also utilize their resources to make sure they come to the track more prepared than ever.

The Petersburg West Virginia native made his K&N debut at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway, where after qualifying 19^th, Rohrbaugh drove more like a veteran and placed 13^th in his debut on the lead lap.

A month later, Rohrbaugh headed to the “Magic Mile” of New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where the rising star successful qualified for the Granite State 100, but near the end of the event, the team ran into battery issues. Down, but not out, the team made a nice recovery, keeping their driver on the lead lap and a respectful 21^st place finish, given the circumstances.

“In retrospect, it hasn’t been that long since we’ve been in a K&N race, but it feels like forever,” added Rohrbaugh. The downtime has allowed us to focus on our Pro Cup program, as well as make sure our K&N program is prepared as it can be, because it’s Dover.

Dover is a big opportunity for us, but we know it’s not going to be easy. There’s a lot of good cars entered, so we have to be sure to utilize our time wisely and make sure that our No. 05 Grant County Mulch Toyota Camry is strong out of the box and we make progress forward and not backwards.”

Once Rohrbaugh qualifies for the 16^th race of the season, his goals are feasible, but more important obtainable.

“I’ve learned from watching prior races and such that Dover can be a difficult place to pass,” sounded Rohrbaugh. “When we make our moves, it has to be right and most of all make sure we don’t put ourselves in a spot where we could get into trouble. Qualifying near the front will be important. Once the race starts, we’ll give it our best towards earning a top-10 finish.”

Following Dover, the Grant County Mulch Racing team will shift their focus back to the X-1R Pro Cup Series for their remaining races, before preparing during the off-season for a busy 2015 season, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We’re excited about what’s ahead,” Rohrbaugh mentioned. “We’re still ironing out all the details, but we’ll be back in 2015 and that’s the main thing.”

Rick Ware Racing announced today that 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year Timmy Hill will pilot the team’s No. 23 Chevrolet Camaro in Saturday’s Dover 200 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.

Saturday’s race will also mark the debut of the team’s newest sponsor, Retro Infinity Inc.

Hill, 21, will make his fifth NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the season at the “Monster Mile” Saturday. Hill has competed in three events for Rick Ware Racing this year, most recently at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway last month. Hill competed for the Thomasville, North Carolina-based team earlier at Dover International Speedway, where he maneuvered a season-best finish of 21^st, after starting 25^th.

“I’m excited to represent Retro Infinity this weekend at Dover,” said Hill. “It’s always refreshing to welcome a new sponsor to the sport, especially one that can relate to NASCAR fans across the country. We had a solid run at Dover earlier this year, so we’ll return this weekend and hope we can do a little better.”

The Port Tobacco, Maryland driver will make his fifth career Nationwide start at the 1.0-mile concrete oval Saturday. In his previous four runs, Hill negotiated four top-25 finishes, including a track best of 21^st occurring in June.

“I enjoy competing at Dover,” added Hill. “It’s a cool track, but one you need to have finesse in order to conquer. Handling is important for our No. 23 Retro Infinity Chevrolet Camaro, so I’m sure we’ll spend practicing making sure we’ll have a competitive piece for the race. Entering Dover, Hill is set to make his 68^th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start. He has achieved two top-10 finishes, including a career-best of seventh at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2012. He will run double-duty this weekend at Dover, also piloting the No. 44 Chevrolet SS for Xxxtreme Motorsport in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The Dover 200 is set for Saturday, September 27, 2014. The 200-lap contest is scheduled to air live on ESPN2, the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90 beginning at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The green flag is scheduled to fly at 3:44 p.m.

NASCAR star Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota Camry, wowed race fans in downtown Phoenix when he revved up his Camry and performed a burnout on 3^rd Street. Kenseth, the 2003 Winston Cup Champion and a two-time Daytona 500 winner, was in town to promote the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Racewayon Sunday, Nov. 9.

Before climbing into the car, Kenseth spoke with Phoenix-area media about what he enjoys about racing at PIR.

“We’ve always had great fan support out there,” he said. “It’s always fun to come and watch the grandstands be full here and so many people come out to watch us race.”

Kenseth was also asked about how the track’s surface, which was repaved in 2011, has changed in recent years.

“I like it. The pavement keeps aging a little bit more; the groove moves up a little bit more,” he said. “It makes it a little bit easier to pass. It’s a great race track.

Kenseth, the winner of the 2002 Checker Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil at PIR, also gave some insight into the upcoming Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500, which is the final race in the Eliminator Round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, and the pressure that will be on the drivers and their teams in Phoenix.

“Of course, there’s a huge sense of urgency,” he said. “It’s another elimination round before four lucky guys are going to go to Homestead and race for a championship.”

Following the burnout, Kenseth held a moderated question-and-answer session with fans at the Hard Rock Café where he talked about topics ranging from the race at PIR to a children’s book he and his wife Katie released earlier this year.

As the Challenger round prepares to end this weekend at Dover International Speedway, Ford Racing is releasing the second of a three-part video series highlighting key components of this year’s Chase to the Championship entitled, “Building Speed.”

After focusing on the value of quick pit stops with Roush Fenway Racing, this installment looks at the quality process employed by the Roush Yates Engine facility when it comes to building a Ford Racing FR9 engine from start to finish.  Ford Racing spent an entire day at the operation’s Mooresville, NC, headquarters to capture some of the intricate details that go into creating the FR9 engine.

“NASCAR racing is one of the most competitive automotive racing series in the world. Our contribution is making sure we produce reliable and strong engines,” said Roush Yates CEO Doug Yates.  “Ultimately, it comes down to the processes and the dedication of the staff we having working together at Roush Yates.  We have 200 devoted employees that design, develop, manufacture the components, and provide final assembly of our engines.”

Since the formation of Roush Yates Engines in 2004, the company has won 88 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races for Ford, including 12 this season.  Five Ford drivers have qualified for this year’s Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and the Team Penske duo of Brad Keselowski (Chicagoland) and Joey Logano (Loudon) have already advanced to the Contender Round by virtue of their respective wins in the first two playoff events of the season.

“This year’s championship format is obviously unique.  It’s a different playoff schedule than it has been in the past, so we’re going to work extremely hard,” said Yates.  “Hopefully the result of our attention to detail and focus will be a NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship for Ford Racing.”

Team Penske announced today that it has signed multiple-race winner and 2014 NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup contender, Joey Logano, to a contract extension.

Under the new multi-year agreement, Logano will continue behind the wheel of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) and the No. 22 Discount Tire / Hertz Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) for Team Penske.

“Joey Logano has been everything we hoped he would be, both as a driver and as a representative of our organization and for our partners,” said Roger Penske. “He continues to put points on the board for us and the continuity and chemistry he has developed within the team has been terrific. We believe he can be a leader and championship-level driver for Team Penske for years to come.”

Already a seven-year NASCAR veteran, the 24-year-old has proven to be an elite driver. Throughout the course of his career, Logano has produced seven NSCS wins and 21 NNS victories. Since joining Team Penske at the start of the 2013 NASCAR season, Logano has enjoyed the best two-year stretch of his young career, earning five NSCS wins and three NNS victories.

The native of Middletown, Conn., has earned a spot in his second-consecutive Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2014. His four NSCS wins – at Texas Motor Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway – reflect a career high in race victories for one season. Those wins, along with a career best 12 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes through the season’s first 28 races driving the Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion, helped Logano earn the fifth seed to begin the Chase playoff format. NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison joined a Charlotte Motor Speedway road show today at Walmart in Simpsonville, South Carolina as part of the Bank of America 500 Trophy Tour.

Presented by Coca-Cola and Walmart, the trophy tour kicked off at the beginning of September and has continued in multiple cities across four regions in advance of the Oct. 11 Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Allison greeted hundreds of fans in Simpsonville and in addition to signing autographs, he shared racing memories and talked about the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway.

"It takes a really strong effort (to run at Charlotte). Very similar to the other races, except if you're there for the Coca-Cola 600 you know it's an extra hundred miles and that puts a lot of wear and tear on the driver, the crew and the equipment," said Allison, a six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "If you're there for the Bank of America 500, it's still a major race at a major place. A track that's fast, a lot of people can go fast there. The competition is always good, so you've got to do all the right things."

Allison, who has three Bank of America 500 wins, offered his perspective on which drivers he thinks will fare well in the only remaining Saturday night NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race of the season.

"We've seen great runs out of some of the new youngsters. Kyle Larson has done really well on several occasions already this year, but Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski have got their stuff together right at the moment. The Penske Fords are really looking good. Charlotte can always pull a surprise on everybody. Somebody can come up there and really have everything together and get the right breaks and come out on top."

Anthony Anders was sitting with friends in the grandstands off Turn 4 at historic Greenville Pickens Speedway when he got the itch to give this racing thing a try. Twenty years later, the Easley, South Carolina, driver has reached the pinnacle of short-track racing.

Anders is the 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.

The 43-year-old Anders accomplished the feat by leading the national points standings every week of the season and finishing with 30 wins, ninth most in a single season in the history of the series.

“I remember being at the banquet and seeing all those banners (of past national champions),” Anders said. “I said, ‘I want to be there one day.’

“I've won a lot of races in my career. It's just amazing to accomplish this.”

To win the national title, Anders had to fend off a pair of the best short-track racers in NASCAR.

Two-time national champion Lee Pulliam of North Carolina finished second, while Connecticut’s Keith Rocco finished third. It is the fourth straight year Pulliam has been among the top three, while Rocco stretched his run to eight seasons – every year under the current format – of being in the top four.

“NASCAR would like to congratulate Anthony Anders as our 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series. “There have been a lot of great champions from Greenville Pickens Speedway over the years, and Anders continued that legacy with his tremendous season. We look forward to formally crowning him at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte in December.”

Anders finished with 720 points, to Pulliam’s 709 and Rocco’s 698.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards will take place on Friday, Dec. 12. Among those honored will be the 2014 national champion, as well as track champions from 58 tracks across the United States and Canada, state and province champions, and top rookies.

In addition to his national championship, Anders took home top honors in South Carolina for the fourth consecutive season and added his name again to the Wall of Champions as the Late Model Stock Car champion at Greenville. The outside retaining wall around the flat half-mile lists the names of all the track’s champions, including the likes of David Pearson and Ralph Earnhardt, as well as 1997 NASCAR national champion Dexter Canipe. The state championship traces its lineage back to 1953 and also includes Pearson, Cale Yarborough and Bobby Isaac.

Anders is the 25th driver in the 33 years of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series to win the national championship.

“Our goal was to win it in the beginning of the year,” said Anders. “It’s been an overwhelming blessing for us.”

Anders had 30 wins, 44 top fives and 48 top 10s in 51 races at Greenville, South Carolina’s Anderson Motor Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway, as well as North Carolina’s Hickory Motor Speedway.

Pulliam continued his incredible four-year run, adding 25 wins, 41 top fives and 42 top 10s in 46 starts to his resume. The 26-year-old from Semora, North Carolina, has 92 Late Model wins since 2011. He won his first North Carolina championship to go with the Virginia titles he won in 2012-13.

Rocco also added to his own legacy.

The 29-year-old from Wallingford, Connecticut, won his seventh straight Connecticut championship. He has already clinched the SK Modified Division title at Waterford Speedbowl, and is third at Stafford Motor Speedway and second at Thompson Speedway heading into each track’s final weekends.

Rocco, who had 16 wins, 35 top fives and 40 top 10s in 46 starts, will be on the big stage in Charlotte for the awards as one of the top three drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for the sixth straight year.

“Waterford, we absolutely dominate; Thompson, we were very, very strong; Stafford, we had a better year than we did last year but still not quite up to par,” said Rocco. “Stafford has the fiercest competition, I think, than anybody in the country. It's tough to win up there. We definitely made big gains this year.

“We just work hard in the shop. All I do is live, eat and sleep racing. It's truly what I enjoy to do and it’s what I put my heart and soul to do.”

Dillon Bassett, 17, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, collected 13 wins racing his Late Model at seven different tracks throughout the southeast and finished fourth in the standings.

Rounding out the top five is Chad Finchum, 20, of Knoxville, Tennessee, who won the Late Model championship at Lonesome Pine in Coeburn, Virginia, and finished second at Tennessee’s Kingsport Speedway.

Ryan Preece finished sixth in the national standings. Preece is six points behind Ted Christopher heading into Sunday’s SK Modified finale at Stafford, and leads Rocco by 10 points with one race remaining at Thompson. Fourth through sixth in the national standings were separated by just six points.

Kres Vandyke, who won the track championship at Kingsport, placed seventh, while former national champion Peyton Sellers finished eighth after winning the Late Model division at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway. Randy Porter, who competes against Anders at Greenville and Anderson, finished ninth. Completing the top 10 is Tommy Lemons Jr., who raced at Motor Mile, South Boston, Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina, and Southern National Motor Speedway in Lucama, North Carolina.

Nick Heywood won the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Rookie of the Year Award presented by Jostens.

Heywood, 26, of Plattsburgh, New York, competes in the asphalt modified division at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh as well as Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont. He won the track championship at Airborne. Heywood won the national rookie award by 12 points, 597-585, over Kyle Plott, 18, of Marietta, Georgia. Plott competes in Late Models at Greenville, Anderson and Hickory. Mark Lamberton, who finished third at Airborne, placed third in the national rookie standings.

The rookie of the year is for first-year Division I license holders.

A driver’s top 18 finishes through Sept. 15 count toward the national championship as well a U.S. state and Canadian province championships and rookie honors, and champions are decided on overall point total.

Under the point structure for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, drivers receive two points for every car they finish ahead of – up to 18 cars – and three points for a win, with an additional two points available if the driver starts 10th or lower.

Nine of Anders’ wins gave him the maximum 41 points in a race, including his final win of the season on Sept. 14 after starting 17th at Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach is a track where Anders won the 2012 Late Model championship and scored a win in the 20th Annual Myrtle Beach 400 in 2013.

But it was Greenville where Anders fell in love with racing – enough to trade his red 1976 Mustang for a race car, a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass that he competed with in the Charger Division. He moved up to Late Models in 2005.

When he’s not racing, Anders is operating one of his two companies – Anders Inc., a road construction outfit, and Busy Beaver Tree Service, which specializes in landscaping. A father of four, Anders said his car number – 36 – came from a combination of his favorite driver (Dale Earnhardt) and his wife’s (Mark Martin).

This year, he drove for Hawk-McCall Racing, which fielded a Late Model for 2014 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion Ben Rhodes last year.

“This race car has been really outstanding,” said Anders, who plans to compete in the annual Martinsville Late Model race on Oct. 26.

“It’s just like a dream come true for me,” said Anders. “It’s been an honor to be part of this program. I just can’t wait to get to Charlotte.”

Established in 1982, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is NASCAR’s national championship program for weekly short track auto racing. In all, 58 paved and dirt tracks throughout the United States and Canada participate.
