Monster Energy Racing: Riley Herbst Las Vegas NXS Advance

Wednesday, Mar 03

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

•  Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts the fourth race of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300. It’s also the hometown race for Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 South Point Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing. The recently minted 22-year-old (Herbst’s birthday was Feb. 24) is a third-generation racer from Las Vegas. His grandfather, Jerry, and uncles Tim and Ed, and father Troy, are all Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame inductees for being championship-winning off-road racers.

•  Furthering the hometown connection is Herbst’s South Point Ford Mustang. Featuring more than 2,100 guestrooms, the South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa overlooks the famous Las Vegas Strip and the serenity of the surrounding mountainscape. Each oversized guestroom features state-of-the-art LED televisions as well as WiFi with high-speed internet connections. Guests visiting South Point Hotel will experience affordable luxury through a casino offering top-of-the-line gaming technology, more than 60 table games and a separate race and sports book area, 11 restaurants, world-class Costa Del Sur Spa and Salon, a 400-seat showroom featuring headliner entertainment, a 700-seat Bingo room, a 16-screen Cinemark movie complex, a 64-lane bowling center, a 52,000-square foot Conference Center and an 80,000-square foot Exhibit Hall. The venue is the “Official Hotel and Casino of Las Vegas Motor Speedway” and sponsor of the September 2021 Las Vegas NASCAR Cup Series race, South Point 400. Connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.

•  Herbst was an Xfinity Series rookie last year, and in his last two visits to Las Vegas he finished ninth and 12th, respectively, in the February and September races. However, that February race in 2020 was not the first time Herbst raced an Xfinity Series car at the 1.5-mile oval. As part of a nine-race Xfinity Series schedule in 2019, Herbst competed at Las Vegas on Sept. 14 and acquitted himself well, starting 15th and finishing ninth for what was his fourth career Xfinity Series top-10. Herbst now has 21 career top-10s as he heads into the Alsco Uniforms 300.

•  In last week’s Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Herbst endured an up-and-down day. He started 29th and climbed to as high as fourth, where he started the final stage. Herbst was poised to race with the leaders and potentially contend for the win, but on lap 99, Justin Allgaier came off turn two and pinched Herbst into the outside wall. This damaged the front end of Herbst’s No. 98 Ford and forced a prolonged pit stop for repairs. Herbst restarted 30th and rallied his way into the top-15 by lap 109. He ultimately finished 11th, one spot shy of his third consecutive top-10 at Homestead.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 South Point Ford Mustang

You’re heading to your hometrack – Las Vegas Motor Speedway. What are your expectations for the race?

“I’m really looking forward to heading back to Vegas. I think we’ll be really, really fast and have some good success – at least that’s what we’re planning for. The No. 98 won that race last year, so I’m looking forward to going back home to race that one. I just think we kind of need to work through the first four or five races and see where we are because it’s a new team for me. For the first five races, we’re just kind of judging everything and, hopefully, after that and after the first quarter of the season, we can be in contention for wins and be racing up front.”

With the success the No. 98 team had last year with Chase Briscoe, particularly at tracks like Homestead and Las Vegas, are you talking with him to get advice?

“A lot of it comes from my crew chief, Richard Boswell. I lean on him a lot. I’ve also talked to Chase a few times – especially before the (Daytona) road course. He’s in a new position himself in the NASCAR Cup Series and trying to get his grips around him, but he’s helped me out quite a bit by telling me to take my time and trust in Richard. He said to know that the No. 98 South Point Ford is fast and to have some fun.”

How much fun are you going to have when you go back to your hometown of Las Vegas?

“I haven’t been back home since the holidays, so it’ll be cool to see some people and I’m really excited that our governor decided to allow some people in the stands. Honestly, I’m excited to be racing in front of a hometown crowd. Man, the No. 98 team was fast and swept both races last year – so, no pressure there (laughs). But I’m looking forward to a good run and having some fun back home.”

Wednesday, Mar 03
Kaulig Racing announced today the addition of uniform rental company, Alsco Uniforms, as a partner on its No. 10 Chevrolet driven by Jeb Burton at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Alsco Uniforms, the leading supplier of employee uniforms, towels, first aid kits, floor mats and mops, has been a long-time partner of both Kaulig Racing and Burton, having supplied many of its products and services to the team. Kaulig Racing is now excited to take their relationship to the next level and welcome the uniform industry’s best kept secret onboard the No. 10 Chevrolet.

“Alsco Uniforms couldn’t be more thrilled for our new alignment with Kaulig Racing and driver Jeb Burton as a supplier and sponsor” said Ben Fox, director of sales and marketing at Alsco. “In addition to our sponsorship, we provide uniforms, towels, floor mats, sanitizers and first aid to the team.”

“Having Alsco on the No. 10 car is really exciting for Kaulig Racing, as they have been a valued partner of ours for a couple years now,” said Chris Rice, president of Kaulig Racing. “We're so happy Alsco has partnered with us as a sponsor and supplier, so we can help showcase their products to the motorsports industry.”

In addition to their primary race, Alsco also serves as an associate partner on the No. 10 for the entire 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) season.

“I’m really looking forward to having Alsco on our No. 10 Chevrolet in Las Vegas,” said Burton. “They’ve been a great partner of mine the last couple years. This is the first time they will be a primary partner for me so I’m excited about that. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum we’ve had the last three weeks and make Alsco proud.”

Not only will Alsco act as the primary partner on the No. 10 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it will also serve as the title sponsor for the NXS event, the Alsco Uniforms 300 on Saturday, March 6 at 4:30PM ET on FS1.

DiBenedetto Excited About Return to Las Vegas

Wednesday, Mar 03

With a mostly disappointing month of February behind them, Matt DiBenedetto and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are anxious to move into the month of March, beginning with this weekend’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Even before the season started I was looking forward to March,” DiBenedetto said. “This is the start of a good stretch of tracks for us.”

The 1.5-mile Las Vegas track has been particularly good for DiBenedetto and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team in recent seasons. Last year, he was runner-up in both races at Vegas, and in the six races before he joined the No. 21 team, the Wood Brothers posted four top-10s and no finishes outside the top 15.

“We had a shot to win both races at Las Vegas last year and we still had room for improvement,” DiBenedetto said. “I can’t wait to get there and see how we stack up against the competition. We were strong there last year, and I’m hoping we have the same speed this year.”

But he cautioned that past results are no guarantee of future performance.

“There are a lot of tough teams out there right now,” he said. “A lot of folks are running good.”

DiBenedetto and the No. 21 Mustang will be starting 30th on Sunday. With no qualifying scheduled, the line-up will be set based on recent performances, which have been disappointing for his team. And that’s a big disadvantage, he said.

“It hurts,” he said. “It really does. It messes up your early-race strategy as far as going for Stage points.

“Sometimes it’s well into the second or even the third Stage before you can work your way to the front.

“The [line-up] system puts you behind the Eight Ball, so you just have to go to work and overcome it.”

The 267-lap Pennzoil 400, which will have Stage breaks at Laps 80 and 160, is set to get the green flag just after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time). FOX will carry the TV broadcast.

Daniel Suarez Trackhouse Racing Las Vegas Advance

Wednesday, Mar 03

Ever wanted to know what it is like for a new team to prepare for months and race in the Daytona 500?

Why someone like Justin Marks would start a NASCAR Cup Series team like Trackhouse Racing?

What a team meeting with Pitbull is like the night before the race? Or, visit the school he built in his Miami neighborhood?

Ever wondered just how tough Daniel Suárez is behind the wheel of the No. 99 Chevrolet?

Click To Watch Trailer for "TRACKHOUSE: GET READY"

If you want answers to any of the above then watch "TRACKHOUSE: GET READY" Thursday at 7 PM ET on NASCAR's Facebook and YouTube channels.

Cameras spent weeks with the Trackhouse team as it raced in the first three races of the 2021 Cup Series season. They captured the off track moments as the new team took its first steps of what it expects to be a long journey.

Pitbull, Daniel Suárez, Justin Marks and Steve Phelps at SLAM! School in Miami on Monday.

SLAM! School Visit

After finishing 15th at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Sunday Suárez spent Monday in Miami touring Trackhouse Co-Owner Pitbull's SLAM! (Sports Leadership Arts and Management) inner-city charter school -- which he helped establish seven years ago.

Suárez joined Marks and NASCAR President Steve Phelps in meeting with students and discussing the importance of education.

Suárez held a news conference from the radio and television broadcasting classes and talked to students about the importance of STEM in racing as well as the job market.

Pitbull joined the group as they fired the engine of the No. 99 Chevrolet liveried in a special SLAM! paint scheme. Suarez even did a burnout in front of the students and the team's race hauler.

Viva Las Vegas

Suárez and the No. 99 Camping World Chevrolet Camaro crew take on the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday in the fourth race of the 2021 season.

Suárez has raced at the front of the field in all three races this season and has surprised many with his early success with such a new organization.

Suárez enters the race 22nd in points despite being caught up in a lap 14 wreck in the Daytona 500. He suffered heavy damage in a first lap encounter when another car slowed in front of the field at the start of Sunday's race in Homestead.

The No. 99 should climb higher in the standings in the coming weeks. Watch Sunday's race at 3:30 p.m. ET on Fox

Daniel Suárez, Driver of the No. 99 Camping World Chevrolet

What should race fans expect to see in "TRACKHOUSE: GET READY"?

Suárez: “I am looking forward to this video. I don't know what to expect. The cameras have followed us around all year so far. We have had a lot of fun making it, but it is also hard work for the cameramen and people who produce those shows. I hope it gives race fans a chance to see what it was like for us the first few weeks of the season."

What do you expect in Las Vegas?

Suárez: "Las Vegas is going to be a tough track for everyone. You don't have as many lanes to use to pass. But I think our Camping World Chevrolet is going to be really good. I hope we can find some luck and avoid others' problems and show just how fast we really are."

What do you think of your season so far?

Suárez: "I'm happy with our progress so far, but nobody is satisfied. As (Crew Chief) Travis (Mack) always says 'we aren't losing but learning.' We are racing for top-10 finishes this season and that's pretty impressive. The thing you have to remember is all of us are just getting to know each other. We are all new. But I like what i see so far.

"Off the track we have brought in CommScope and Camping World and both of those companies are great partners. And, it's been pretty cool to hang out and get to know Pitbull. It's been a pretty exciting year so far."

What did you think of the SLAM! School visit?

Suárez: "That was amazing to see those kids and how interested they were in their education. They have a radio and broadcast studio that was amazing. We had a news conference where the kids asked me questions. It's a very professionally run school with a lot of amazing teachers and students. NASCAR President Steve Phelps and Pitbull joined myself and Justin and our team. The kids faces lit up when we fired up the race car and I did a burnout."

  • Nemechek is a six-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports. Across 104 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, the second-generation driver has compiled two poles, 637 laps led, 29 top-five and 52 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 13.0. The North Carolina native qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017. He was voted the series most popular driver in 2015.

  • The 23-year-old driver produced three top-10 finishes and an average result of 22.4 while competing for rookie of the year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020. He recorded a career-best eighth-place finish twice, both coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award four times and finished 23rd in the championship standings.
  • Eric Phillips returns to KBM to lead the No. 4 team this season. Mobil 1 flows quickly in extreme temperatures to protect critical engine parts and is designed to maximize engine performance and help extend engine life.

John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:

How important is it for you to come out this week and have a strong run on a 1.5-mile track to show that you are capable of competing for the win no matter the track style?
“Having strong runs on a superspeedway to start out the year at Daytona and then going to a road course and leading a bunch of laps with another strong run there to now a mile-and-a-half, I definitely feel like being able to show up to every different style racetrack is only going to help us know that we are going to be competitive every single week when we show up no matter what style track. With it being the first 1.5-mile race, I’m super excited about it. I really like Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Hopefully we can go get the job done.”

How does the racing at Vegas in trucks compare to the other 1.5-mile tracks?
“I feel like the racing at Las Vegas is very interesting. It almost races like a superspeedway with how big the runs are in the draft and everything else. Overall, it is still your typical 1.5-mile racetrack. It’s something that I really enjoy. I love being able to manipulate the air and move around. Vegas is another place where you can move from the bottom all the way to the top to run the fence. Hopefully we can get up there Friday night.”

Is it going to be any different this week racing against Kyle now having him as a teammate and also being your boss?
“Racing against Kyle has definitely been a lot of fun. Growing up racing against him, he is always the guy to beat when you show up Super Late Model racing or in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series or the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Being able to race against him for so many years, he is up on me for beating me so many times, but I’ve still been able to beat him a couple of times. Hopefully we will be able to go out there and have a really good weekend and bring home the KBM trucks 1-2-3. Hopefully it is us in victory lane instead of him.”

John Hunter Nemechek Career Highlights:

  • Six-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports. Across 104 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, has compiled two poles, 637 laps led, 29 top-five and 52 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 13.0.
  • Qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017.
  • Produced three top-10 finishes and an average result of 22.4 while competing for rookie of the year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020.
