NASCAR XFINITY Series TheHouse.com 300 Preview

The NASCAR XFINITY Series races into Joliet, IL on Saturday, September 16 for TheHouse.com 300. This race at the Chicagoland Speedway’s 1.5 mile tri-oval will signal the end of the NXS regular season and will set the playoff roster for the run up to championship weekend. Racing begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

The NXS playoff outlook is quite secure for some, still in doubt for others, and is a “hail mary pass” of a possibility for a few. Elliott Sadler, William Byron, Justin Allgaier, Daniel Hemric, Brennan Poole, Ryan Reed, Cole Custer, Matt Tifft and Jeremy Clements have all either secured their playoff positions by a series win or by accumulating enough points that they cannot mathematically be unseated at this point of the season. These nine secure drivers have left only three contested spots going into TheHouse.com 300. Of those still in doubt to get into the playoffs, Blake Koch, Michael Annett and Brendan Gaughan currently hold the final positions by virtue of points. Koch can clinch on points by earning 5, unless there is a new winner, in which case he would need to earn 30 points. Annett can clinch with 54 points if there is a new winner or 30 points if there is a repeat winner. Gaughan gets in with 31 points and a repeat winner. He would need help if there were a new winner. Of course, all three could clinch by taking the checkered flag Saturday afternoon. With a “hail mary” win, Dakoda Armstrong, JJ Yeley, Ross Chastain, Ryan Sieg, Brandon Jones and Spencer Gallagher would find their way into the NXS playoffs and their shot at the series championship. Joey Gase, Garrett Smithley and David Starr would all need a win and to break into the top 20 in points to be eligible for the 2017 NXS playoffs.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series has held 21 races at Chicagoland Speedway with 14 different pole winners. Kyle Busch leads all NXS competitors with three career poles on the 1.5 mile tri-oval. The speedway has also produced 14 different race winners. Kyle Busch also leads this track stat with four race wins. Kevin Harvick holds second place in career NXS wins here with three. Last Year’s winner, Erik Jones, will return to defend his crown. There has never been a repeat champion in NXS history at Chicagoland Speedway. Along with Jones, there will be six other NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series drivers in the field (Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney, Corey LaJoie and Kyle Larson).

The NASCAR XFINITY Series will race in TheHouse.com 300 on Saturday, September 16 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois. Coverage at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
