Rhodes 10th in Big Run in Daytona Opener

Harrison Rhodes returned to the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller team in spectacular fashion Saturday, racing with the leaders and finishing 10th in the PowerShares QQQ 300 season-opener at Daytona International Speedway.

Rhodes, returning to the Johnny Davis-owned team after a season away, had the Flex Tape Chevrolet in the lead pack much of the night. He was running in the top five in the final stages of the race despite being involved in a 12-car accident on lap 30.

The finish was the second highest (after a ninth) of his Xfinity Series career.

Rhodes was part of a big day for JD Motorsports. His teammates – Garrett Smithley was eighth and Ross Chastain 16th – also had fine runs.

“It was an unbelievable run for our Flex Tape team tonight and for JD Motorsports as a whole,” Rhodes said. “I was fortunate enough to miss some big wrecks and stay out of trouble. After making it all the way to fourth, I thought I might have a chance to win!

“It was a crazy and exciting night, but I’m extremely happy to start the season on a high note with a top 10. Thanks to the whole JD Motorsports team for all their hard work and commitment.”

Ryan Reed won the race, scoring his second series victory.
