Koch's launch into the NASCAR Nationwide Rookie of the Year campaign comes on the heels of a collaboration between MacDonald Motorsports and a handful of committed sponsors including Heartland Harley Davidson and RizeUp.us. Heartland Harley Davidson has signed with Koch as the primary sponsor of the #81 for two races and will be the co-primary sponsor for numerous other races on the schedule with the primary sponsors of those events to be announced. RizeUp.us will be the primary sponsor for the upcoming event in Phoenix.
Based in Mooresville, North Carolina, MacDonald Motorsports is very well known in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and is owned and operated by Randy MacDonald who started his own driving career in the 1980’s. The provisions made by Randy’s father, Merril “Doc” MacDonald, and mother Pat helped Randy start racing professionally and establish his own company. Randy’s father Doc helped him create business relationships and carry out other important functions of the team until finishing his own race in March of 2007. Following the passing of their leader, MacDonald Motorsports continues on in his honor and memory in a very successful fashion that Koch will now play a role in.
Heartland Harley Davidson is based in Burlington, Iowa and maintains one of the largest inventories of Genuine Harley Davidson, Buell and aftermarket parts and accessories in stock at all times. Their 35,000 square foot showroom is often a destination dealership for enthusiasts and their online store is one click away for all your Harley Davidson needs from stock parts to items that will make your bike stand out from all the rest. Joining Heartland Harley Davidson in the intial support of Koch's campaign is RizeUp.us. Located in West Palm Beach, Florida, this online resource offers a simple plan to restore the nation back to “One Nation Under God.” Further information on this organization can be found at www.RizeUp.us.
Koch made his initial start at the NASCAR Nationwide level back in 2009 in a cameo appearance with Macdonald Motorsports in Memphis. In that race, the former motocrosser that had been busy racing speedway trucks and late models on the east coast finished an impressive 17th on the lead lap. Now he returns to the starting grid with the same team that gave him that opportunity with a positive outlook on the season to come.
"I can't thank everyone enough that made this possible," said Koch. "I have to thank my family, MacDonald Motorsports, RizeUp.us and Heartland Harley Davidson for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I am really looking forward to seeing God's plan for me, my sponsors and this team."
In 2009 and 2010, Koch competed full time in the NASCAR West series. During his most recent year he earned three top fives and seven top ten finishes. In the spring of 2010 Koch made his first start in the ARCA Remax Series where he drove his Tire Kingdom sponsored car from the rear of the field to finish third on the road course at Palm Beach International Speedway despite racing on rain tires for the first time in his career.
