After another car spewed oil on the track during Friday’s practice which sent Parker into the wall, the scrappy Big Machine Racing Team worked late into Friday night and early Saturday morning to get the Spiked Coolers Chevy back-up car ready to race in Phoenix. Their hard work paid off. After starting at the rear of the field, Parker battled his way to the front- passing just about every car at least once, to finish P14.
“All we fought through this weekend, only getting two practice laps, and having to put together a back up car from scratch, we were solidly a top 10 car,” said Parker after his last full time race with Big Machine. “Especially in the long run. When we pitted in the green flag cycle, then the caution came out, we ended up a lap down. Just really unfortunate timing. And the last run we just went like hell. It’s a perfect snapshot of our two years together,” he added. “I definitely got emotional. I was wearing sunglasses before the race for a reason. Then I was able to lock in and focus. I tried to soak it all in. Aric Almirola gave be the best advice before the race. He said Tony Stewart told him when you get in the car take a moment to look around. And I did. I’m very thankful.”
Riley Herbst won the race and Justin Allgeier came from the rear of the field in his back up car to win the Xfinity Championship.
We wish Parker all the best….
