Austin Hill, driver of the No. 21 Chevy Camaro for Richard Childress Racing, punched his ticket at Homestead Miami Speedway to fight for a championship after taking the checkered flag.
“I worked so hard for this,” Hill stated after the race. “A lot of people doubt me but I wake up every day to prove them wrong. “I deserve to be here and I deserve to race for a championship. This No. 21-team deserves it just as much as I do.”
Hill’s victory at Homestead, where he led 81 of the 200 scheduled laps, counted as his fourth win in the Xfinity Series this year and one of the favorites to win the championship in two weeks at Phoenix.
Cole Custer, who led 67 laps and was looking like he was on the winning pit strategy until Hill took the lead with just a handful laps to go, finished second to Hill at Homestead. Custer is one of the favorites to move on to the final round as he sits fourth in the points standing. Another favorite is series veteran Justin Allgaier as he sits third in points.
Next week, is the final short track of the year as the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to The Paperclip of Martinsville Speedway. The 300 lap event on the half mile short track will take place next Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern on The CW, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
